I think we all knew he was on his way out when we saw the video of him leaving the middle east. Foul play or no, the Palestinians may be better off without him.

seems to me that most popular Palestinian candidate right now is Marwan Barghouti, only trouble is that he'serving 5 consecutive life sentences in Israel, though the arrest and detention are illegal (according to the Geneva conventions and Oslo).

Both Abbas and Qureia have the burden of the old guard's corruption hanging around their necks, and a Hamas candidate, if they even field one, is sure to run into some problems, both from the PLO and Israel.

It'd be better if the other guy (whose name escapes me but the military wing of the Palestinian government tried to shoot him t'other day) got the job. Although the Palestinians probably wouldn't agree at the moment, he's the best man for it since he's a moderate and would probably know how to get a good peace deal going.

Actually, you wouldn't. Barghouti was apprehended in Ramallah, right? According to the Oslo Accords, which both Israel and the PLO signed, it falls under Palestinian legal jurisdiction. So arresting him was illegal. From that footing, it's illegal to still be detaining him.

But I'm sure little things like that aren't important. After all - there're spiders to behead, and nobody likes spiders, right?
