ok how's this?  if you know her parents well, you should probably ask for thier blessing first.  if they agree, then they may be willing to help you.  something like, telling you her favorite flower, then stripping the pedals off of some of them and leaving her a trail to tuxedo bow tie.  attached to the bowtie is a simple note.  

"Prom? (insert your signature here)"

the trail should probably lead into her bedroom.  someplace where she feels safe...the chances of a favorable response are better that way.

Dammit man...do it the old fashioned way.  Go upto her in the hall and ask her the question.  You ask parents for permission when you're getting married and stuff

I always prefered to cach them without all of their friends around but I've seen that done successfully as well.  Depends on your style.

I think you can pretty much take for granted that the girls are probably just as uptight as you, wondering if anyone will ask them to prom.   (Assuming of course that the object of your invitation isn't the most popular girl in school...)  My suggestion to you is to be as casual as possible....no long rehearsed speech....just go up and ask if she's been invited to prom yet.  If the answer is no,  the door is wide open to take the next step.  Be confident and sincere.

So you wait till she knocks of work or whatever each night for about a week.
Hang around outside make sure she sees you, then hide or run away.

Then after a week of nuturing her paranoia, start following her one day. Preferably at night, and preferably with a hood or something that conceals your face.

Now once she comes to a particularly lonely part of the suburb, pick up your pace, maybe make some grunting sounds.

If all goes well she'll do the same, and eventually break out in a run.

Here's where you need to corner her in a dark alley. Now when she starts screaming out for help or reaches for the mace, rip your hood off and ask her.

If all goes well you'll have a date for the prom or whatever its damn well called. If things go bad you may get maced and a restraining order.

Else just catch her before class and ask her matter of factly if she wants to come along with you.

Either way works... Generally.
