Blasters are your friend until you have a lightsaber. Two pistols and Rapid Shot give good results, but remember to stay away from the baddies. If they get up in your face, switch to a melee weapon, blasters take a penalty at that range and Rapid Shot lowers your defense slightly. Two-Weapon Fighting and its improvement feats will also serve you well. Don't buy more then two ore three ranged weapon feats, however: they won't be so useful later on.
One you get a lightsaber and Jedi Defense, though, stick with that. Lots of points into dexterity will serve you well, particularly if you go for two lightsabers or a double-bladed one. Some of the powers are restricted by armor (a carryover from the D&D origins of the game rules, and stupid, IMO, but it's there) so stick to the Jedi clothing type of stuff. Buy the upgraded lightsaber proficency feats as soon as you can, and the lightsaber throw power too.
