I don't think it has to be honest.
Dr Who is a quintessentially British sci-fi show. Basically that means that Americans by and large won't get it. In fact I can already hear the complaints about the CGI, realism of weapons used etc from the "culture of Bash" people already.
To be frank the 9 million or so British viewers couldn't give a toss. The show is great TV entertainment and that's all we care about

Similarly if you don't know what a Dalek is you'll never get why an overgrown pepperpot on wheels is one of the scariest bad guys in British TV.

Me neither. The cliffhanger last week left me wanting more but now I'm actually getting excited every time I think about what's coming next. About 5 seconds into the Next Week teaser I was already getting an inkling about what the enemy would be. When I saw that guy get skeletonised when he was zapped I knew what we were dealing with
Funny thing is that even though the episode was great all everyone is going to be talking about is next weeks episode
