Now I'm quite curious about it. But I must admit I doubt the franchise would change hands so quickly.

same here, we'll just have to wait and see...

Bungie did say that their next game won't be announced "for some time", so who knows..

Thunder: as far as I know, they're all 100% ingame, with no touch-ups. It's not really such a leap, if you consider the hardware they're using. And like Turnsky said, Gears of War is using the Unreal Engine 3, and is being made by Epic themselves. For the time being, it's Xbox exclusive, though I strongly suspect that it will make it's way to the PC at some point.

For my money, the most realistic looking screenshot is this one:

The so-called UT2007 should be released mid to late 2006.  The best part is I don't need to have the world's best computer to play it; they are designing it so that if you have the computer to handle it, you can use full graphics, but if you have a computer that is as of right now middle class, you can still play it with the graphics quality of UT2004.

Cheers for the info on what engine it's using (I'm glad I can recognise it!).

I guess I'm also forgetting that consoles are specifically built for games, so all this lighting and blooming and physics and what have you is built straight into the game. Certainly though, things are looking gorgeous. I just hope the gameplay holds up.

/me agrees with Anaz.  All of these graphical/physics enhancements are all well and good, and I can't deny that I'm drooling over those screenshots, but in a way, I share the opinion of the author of 8-Bit Theater.  The more that these systems focus on stunning graphics, the higher the production costs for games become, the fewer games are released, and the less variety we have to choose from.  I think that problem even exists today; maybe it's just me, but I feel that most of the games out there are too similar to one another, and I'm not really interested in any of them.  The only upcoming game I'm really looking forward to is the new Zelda game, and I don't even have a GameCube yet. :p  Maybe I'm just a PC holdout; I like the idea of being able to play 11-year-old games on the same system that I can play games released last month.  And, with the aid of emulators, I can play games from just about any console out there.  I'm not exactly full of money; I doubt I'm going to get any of these new consoles anytime soon, and if I do, I know it probably won't be the X-Box.  You may call me a Luddite, but I'd much rather have several years between the release of new consoles, and much more effort put into getting the most of the existing hardware, than the cycle of having to buy a whole new set of consoles every few years.

Am I the only one who thought Halo (the first one) just plain sucked?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

DAMN!

Put a warning on this thing! You just about fried my poor modem!

BTW, isn't Fight Night going to be on both the Xbox360 and the PS3?

Removed because of mass-confusion.

Makes sense because the PS3 dev kit hasn't been out long at all. I'm kinda mad that people thought that the Killzone stuff was in-game... Is it just me, or is Sony the ultimate hype machine?

Thanks Rictor, thos PD0 screenshots restored some of my faith in the games looks, the other screenshots I saw were bad... Though I don't like the anime style they seem to have adopted.

And for those who want to know what custom faceplates will look like on the Xbox:

Solid colors will be available too.

I tried playing Halo for all of twenty minutes, and I really didn't find it that enjoyable; then again, I don't really like the "groundpounder" genre in general.  I'm sure that it was a decent game, but I don't think it deserves a tenth of the hype it's received.  In my opinion, the only truly great thing about Halo is Red vs. Blue. :p

yeah but that shots got less detail than most of the others, and the detail, backround, and environment shots on the PS3 appear to outclass the xbox360.  sure the Gears of War  normal maps look nice but ****, you can make out the fuzz and grain on the soldiers uniforms in killzone2. and the shots from gears of war look just like the demo we saw way back when, the displacement map demo and stuff, and the hardware the xbox360 matches the gia rig they used to run that demo
