The wider FS community
We've been thinking about this idea behind closed doors for a while, and we thought now would be an appropriate time to toss it out to the public and see what you guys think. Over the past year or so, the FS community has undergone quite a few changes - VW has closed, and several smaller sites (like GW, GTD etc.) have sprung up in its absence.

In keeping with our motto, we thought it might be cool to boost awareness of the wider community via a sort of webring-like structure - a fixture to place on every community website, that points to everywhere else. What do you guys think?

I don't see why not. This way we can lure more users to our Dungeon O' Doom(TM).. ;)
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I support this idea all the way.  More is merrier.  Besides, there are still some n00bs (to the game, not the community) that need a place to go. (I have a friend who just got the game a couple of weeks ago.)  Plus, we can always accept new artists.
:)

Yes. Can't hurt.

do not torment the sleep deprived artist, he may be vicious when cornered,
in case of emergency, administer caffeine to the artist,
he will become docile after that,
and less likely to stab you in the eye with a mechanical pencil

Sounds good to me. What form would it take? An extra page with links, or banners, or something else?

We already have a sort of extra page with links, but it's been justly complained that this isn't visible enough. It'll probably be similar to a bar of community banners or such.

As long as it's not too intrusive, then that'd be great. Perhaps a row of link banners similar to the Highlights feature?

Very similar. Probably slightly smaller even, since there will be more of them. :)

Well, it's not quite a web, and it's not quite a ring.

My idea was to have something like the Keenspace bar (a small bar on the very top of all linked sites with a combobox listing all sites plust a few other features). That wouldn't be too intrusive, but would still be quite visible.
Probably away. Contact through email.

Sure, just please make it a small link on the main page? Usually when there are web rings, it's this giant 480 X65 link at the bottom :(
