Urgent! Pick Me A DVD Burner...
A quick request to anyone who's up on technology regarding DVD burners...

Please go here:

http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/

And browse their selection of DVD burners in the "today only" section. Tell me which one you think is best, and why.. or if there's another one that's much more worth going after?

I'm looking to buy one by the end of the day. Cheers guys!

I don't understand how to navigate that page, but one click away from that page you linked was NEC ND-3540A, which I'd say is pretty much the best buy there is. I've got a 3500, and it's given me no problems what-so-ever.

any lite-on drive would be a good buy as well, I'd say. :)

You can just scroll down that page if I'm linking to the right place. It's the list of Scans "Today Only" offers for this weekend - there's a lot of stuff in there besides DVD writers. But I don't care about the other stuff... just the writers.

Thanks for the advice, anyhow :)

[color=66ff00]Whoa, pioneer dual layer burners for less than £40?!?

I and my friends have pioneers, they're really reliable and handle DVD +, - and +/-RW. A dual layer drive will burn normal 4 gig and 9 gig media too. I'd go with whatever colour suits you.

Dunno what the honeycomb refers to though.

Pity that there's such a fraking huge charge for non mainland deliveries. We get stiffed by postal charges over here. :(

Teh colour Maeg. It's that kinda brownish/grey/honey colour all our bog standard cases are.

I have a Philips, but I know Pioneer are good. I'd go with the cheapest that handles +-R and Dual Layer 9.

I have a Pioneer DVR-108 (OEM version of the DVR-A08 drive) and can't really fault it: 16X +/-R, 4X +/- RW, 4X DL, 24X CD-RW and 32X CD-R. The CD-R speed is slower than the Lite-On CD burner it replaced (48X) but in real terms that doesn't really translate into much longer burns. It's been superceded now by the DVR-109 which adds support for DL DVD-Rs and ups the DL write speed to 6X as well as increasing the CD-R speed to 40X, the +RW speed to 8X and the -RW speed to 6X. At as low as AUD$76 (USD$56 and GBP£32), it's also a lot cheaper than what I paid for my 108 (AUD$189, USD$140 or GBP£80) too. Based on my experiences with the 108, and Pioneer optical drives in general, I'd heartily recommend the 108/109. In fact, I plan to put a 109 in a PC I'm building for my folks.

I have one that doesn't work.

I managed to burn 1 DVD and since have never been able to burn another.

According to linux (and Windows) it's a "_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A", I got it awhile back so I don't remember the fancy marketing name.
