I have a Pioneer
DVR-108 (OEM version of the DVR-A08 drive) and can't really fault it: 16X +/-R, 4X +/- RW, 4X DL, 24X CD-RW and 32X CD-R. The CD-R speed is slower than the Lite-On CD burner it replaced (48X) but in real terms that doesn't really translate into much longer burns. It's been superceded now by the
DVR-109 which adds support for DL DVD-Rs and ups the DL write speed to 6X as well as increasing the CD-R speed to 40X, the +RW speed to 8X and the -RW speed to 6X. At as low as AUD$76 (USD$56 and GBP£32), it's also a
lot cheaper than what I paid for my 108 (AUD$189, USD$140 or GBP£80) too. Based on my experiences with the 108, and Pioneer optical drives in general, I'd heartily recommend the 108/109. In fact, I plan to put a 109 in a PC I'm building for my folks.
