Ah. Yep. Saw it coming a mile away.

Pataki and Bloomberg are content with slowly removing more and more of our liberties in the name of security.

Speaking of which, my plans were ruined yesterday

What would you prefer? They just suddenly start pulling people over in the middle of the day and rifing through their luggage?
Not only that, but word would get around anyway.

they said if u dont want to you can just walk away, but thats just a means for the cops to want to go after you, because in there mind they are thinking, he could be running and would entice a cop to bother the fool who happens to be "randomly" searched. sucky part is that it is an invasion of privacy regardless of the reasons behind it, and much like the new MTA rules that were put in place last week, were sooooo UNRESONABLE that they didnt last a week!!!!!!!

how tard of the city to do this. it makes sense to take these actions, but then if one has to get searched in my opinion, then they all (ALL!) passengers should get searched. if not, then fugg the MTA.

At this rate it's only a matter of time before Spider-Man gets arrested for jumping the turnstiles.

How about 'gets attacked' ?

The one thing London - and the Uk - has become good at is living through terrorism; we had plenty of practice with the IRA, and the Blitz if you want to go back that far.  That's why people were on the tube the next day after the first set of attacks.

[color=66ff00]I'd have seen it more as 'London reacts with admirable calm when attacked'.

Thing with this is that you can't tell me that the officers aren't going to be racial profiling. If this was simply the case of them using sniffer dogs and only searching when the dog gave them probable cause I might be less annoyed with it (That is after all exactly what happens at airports).

But random searches aren't going to help against this problem in the slightest. It's just to make people think that something is being done.

Stupid thing in particular about racial profiling is that there are already examples of non-Arab terrorists; Richard Reid (attempted to blow up airliner using explosives in his shoes), and also that guy fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan (John Walker?)

Not to mention that previous to 9\11 the worst case of terrorism in the US was carried out by a white guy.

And now an asian guy gets shot without explanation on the underground.  I don't mind if he was a real bomber, but I'd like to be actually told some time soon.

Cobra, you are very lucky I've only had one cup of coffee today :p

Lots of details emerging there.

Firstly, he was wearing a heavy jacket of the sort you'd wear in the dead of winter as described by eyewitnesses.  Second, he ran from police, jumped over the turnstyle, ran down to the tube, half tripped getting into the train and then police officers fired 5 times and killed him.

Quite frankly, they acted properly in my mind.  Lots of suspicious behavior there and if someones going to pull the trigger, one bullet is probably not enough.  You'd damn well better make sure that he's not going to do it for the safety of everyone else around.

Everything I hear points to the police acting correctly too. They challenge the suspect and he still ran.

If you're foolish enough to run when challenged at a tube station by armed police on a day when you know that the police are on the lookout for suicide bombers then you pretty much deserve to be shot for terminal stupidity anyway.
