Just did a test, and PCS Facet will crash with more than approximately 15000 polys in lod0 for me. (PCS 1.3.4 just crashes on any attempted conversion - is it even the latest version? :\ )

Also, while I'm here and because it's been bugging me no end, it seems that PCS doesn't like something about my new setup - AMD 3800+, 2 Gigs RAM, R 9800 Pro 128. What happens is that whenever any version of PCS with the viewer is open, it uses 99-100% CPU power. Turning the viewer off it returns to normal.
It's done it on 2 out of 3 AMDs I've checked it on, but none of the 3 Intel ones, so I'm lost as to what could be causing it (never did it on my old Intel setup).

Fortunately, PCS 2, even in the alpha stage opened a 32 000 poly model I have and ran it blazingly fast, so the future is bright. :D

Soooo, where can I get PCS 2.0? I can't find a link in the thread or on Sourceforge.

the viewer in PCS 1.x was an hack and it runs a loop drawing over and over as fast as it can even when it doesn't need to - hence the cpu usage - it also has some static limits in it and I didn't understand the BSP completely...

PCS 2.x is basically a rewrite from scratch - i can precalculate the size of a BSP i am writing, it only redraws when it detects it needs to [which it doesn't always catch :/], it has it's own internal file format so writing loaders isn't as difficult.

I couldn't find it... And yes I know I haven't been following this as closely as I possibly should have (all my latest attempts to convert cobs -> pofs using old PCS have failed, even those that converted fine before now :wtf:) IIRC I keep getting that recursive thingy... [Raptor knows nothing about code]

You wouldn't see it as much on a multiprocessor, but an infinite loop is an infinite loop.  Which is why I close the render winidow the second PCS loads.

How to avoid the polygon overflow in PCS 1.x ? The model has only 1k polygons, not more.  :confused:

Wait... PCS 2 can't convert models yet. So which PCS should I use?

I got a rather complex model for conversion.

Not sure, I think you'll have to stick with 1.x for now, at least until 2 can convert.

I will be absolutely bloody marvelous if this does end up supporting LWO format, my single biggest block between me and getting models into Freespace is having to convert LWO to COB, which you have to go via .OBJ to do, and even then, it's not always 100% happy with Lightwave's UV mapping :(

I still refuse to accept everquest as a legitimate excuse for not doing something.  Ever.  :p

Seriously though, I would love a good, stable, designed-with-no-limits POF editor as soon as possible.  I'd love to be able to tell people "this is how you fix..." instead of having to preface it with "If you know Hex, this is how you fix [...], or just send me the model" every time I get asked a question.

the only gripes i have about the current pcs is the glopoint importer doesnt work, and id like more autogen features. my experience is if your pof doesnt convert, theres something wrong with your model.

Funily enough, last night I tried to convert something again, and it worked (took almost a half minute to do it, but it worked) :wtf:
