Well, I don't know if Houston has ever took a direct hit, but Galvestion has, 1900, 8,000+ dead when a 22 foot storm surge sweept over the island..

Well, he is planning on starting a disaster preparedness company. I doubt that'd make much money if he moved to Perth.

****. This is not good

My relatives live down at Houston. Fortunately, some of them are here in Singapore (or were), but I think my aunt is still there.

holy ****!

'78 houston took a bad hit, power and water was out for like 2 weeks
'98 tropical storm allison dumped a ****load of water (like at least 18 inches i think) and flooded many areas

fortunately i live on rather high, well drained ground, so theoretically I should be OK but Im leaving for austin tommorow to stay with some relatives just in case. Im also taking my recently built uber-computer with me because I just spent like 1k building it and god forbid anything happen to it.....

bottom line tho, galveston is gona get r4ped in the as(s). Their storm wall (a very innovative form of protection btw) is only like 15-20 feet tall and if the storm surge surpasses that, which it probably will, the whole island will go to hell. you would have to be some kind of retarded to stay in galveston right now.

People will, I just hope it does't make landfall in Houston as a Cat.5 and in it's north eyewall. I hope all of the evacuees have got out of the Astrodome.:sigh:

I said it in the other thread, but my cousin lives in (the north, apparently) Houston.  He and his wife work at a hospital (that sent choppers to New Orleans.  Except they were shot at, so they had to go back).  So hopefully they'll be ok, and not see too much extra work.

Good luck to you stealth and matthew.

Messed up thing is a bunch of katrina refugees were sent there, or were  they, I can't remember.

My cousin is part of Salvation Army, and she went to San Antonio just this morning.  I don't envy her right now...  If it isn't Rita that will cause chaos in San Antonio, it will be the refugees from Houston.  This does not look good.

Yeah, that's what I was about to say. Somebody's got a serious vendetta against those folks from New Orleans.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

yeah there was the 1983 hurricane (CAT4 i believe) that hit Houston H-A-R-D... did a bunch of damage.  then Allison in 2001 was just a joke compared to what this is going to be (hurricane >>>> tropical storm).  only thing Allison did was rain a lot.  this isn't even going to compare.

i'm seriously considering the prospect of losing our house.  i've taken pictures of it already.  we live in a heavily wooded area, and just one tree on the house is all it takes.  of course it's insured, but it'll still never be the same.  it's sad.  i hate change, but i'm almost positive this is going to kill our house :(

well once it hits land it'll start weakening... i'm thinking it'll probably be a cat4 by the time it hits us, but still scary.

looking here tonight, it seems like just a regular night.  sky's perfect, weather feels great.

48 hours from now there's going to be trees falling, and 180+ MPH winds.  not looking forward to it :(

Winds will be raised to 175mph on next advisory, if you live in Houston, you need to get out, as Houston looks to take the right front quad, with the strongest winds.

If the winds will be that powerful, I imagine Houston no longer being the smoggiest city in the US...

jesus christ, i made it to austin in 7 hours, more than twice as long as it should have taken. man that was crazy, so many cars, people running out of gas. we were one of the lucky ones though because we took mostly backroads. well, at least i made it out....
