Oh noes! Conspiracy!11!
First saw something about this on Adrenaline Vault, and thought you might find it interesting. I'm not forming an opinion yet, though whilst I'm willing to accept the first half of the article, the final item sort of ruins it's credibility for me...

I guess we are being scutinised as a scientist would watch bacteria as it swarms and multiplies in a drop of water.... ;)

Hmm, this is interesting, this is suposed to be the un-colored image of Mars.

However, that hillside sure is scarred, and not crater scarred, but maybe wildfire scarred. Now the question, does mars have wildfires? :p

BS.

If you're interested go to the JPL Mars rovers site, where they explain in great detail how/why the colorisation is done.

Edit: "BS" in respect to the article, not Prophet's comment.

Re: Oh noes! Conspiracy!11!
Oh wow. More people claiming a conspiracy to hide the truth about other planets.

Who the hell cares about this? What does it matter if NASA is creating propaganda to make other planets seem less hospitable than they are (rather difficult, considering that the nicest parts of the solar system (besides Earth itself) are somewhat nastier than the nasty parts of Earth)? I doubt the Human Race is going to pull itself together long enough to put people on these rocks anyway.

Humans will all be nuclear dust in a few hundred years...

Nice cheerful thought there :D

Considering most governments records at just about everything else, it's amazing how good they are at UFO coverups/Moon landing hoaxes etc ;)

Files comprising the famous Blue Folder have been declassified a while ago. The prominent Soviet cosmonaut Pavel Popovich got the folder from the KGB in 1991....The folder contains numerous descriptions of UFO flights and reports on some (mostly failed) attempts taken by the military in order to catch the aliens.

What the hell does "mostly failed" mean?

Oh dear. When the original viking lander sent back the first pictures they colourised it wrong thinking that the sky was blue. Now 30 or so years later some dicks find the pictures and assume that they leaked and that they are the real pictures and now NASA are deliberately re-colourising Martian photos.

What dickheads.

Are you sure about that? I doubt changing the colour alone would lead to such an increase in clarity. It looks like the redder versions were 'fudged'.

I'm making the assumption that if you created a picture of a planet that looked less friendly to the observer you might actually deter others from venturing there. The money holders might look at a blue sky and clean landscape with more favour than a seemingly harsher environment and support a project that wanted to find out more about it.

Dunno about the Russians, but the Swedes shot down a UFO once upon a time. They haven't had one seen by more then three or four people since.

That has to count for something...

I suggest you take a look at the original pictures. http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/MPF/science/PDS/pds-jun99.html There are even some blue sky images on their site so if this is all a conspiracy then they ****ed up by posting this on their website then didn't they?

Re: Oh noes! Conspiracy!11!
That's a pity in a way, I'd love to hear them, I'm a pretty big fan of UFOlogy, though from a deliberately sceptic point of view (don't confuse sceptic with not willing to believe).

As Arthur C Clarke said, to believe that Earth is interesting enough to be visited by several alien spaceships a year is somewhat arrogant, but there are some facts that simply cannot be ignored or written off as weather balloons.

The assumption was purely idle pondering. I wasn't even aware of those images. :)

I was just thinking wouldn't you get a different colour sky at dawn and dusk due to higher refraction, kind of like our red sky at night/morning?
