Fastest 5 years ever.
Can you believe it? At least here in Sydney, today is January 7, which makes it HLP's 5th birthday. Yikes.

As an exercise: post what you were doing/like 5 years ago, and what you hope to be doing/like by the end of the next 5 years. :D

5 years ago, I was... bumming around the internet with a British guy I'd just met named "R128Thunder"... hmmm. And I was still in the middle of high school. :blah:

In 5 years time, I at least should be graduated and married. I hope to have won my wife over to playing video games. :p

I was being kicked out of school, I think.

And in 5 years I'll probably be dead.

HBD, HLP! :p

5 years ago, I was still enjoying my recent (6 months prior) release from the army. I think that at the time, I was working at a radio station here in Jerusalem. Unfortunately, 5 years ago was smack dab in the middle of the 1-year period between having lost my old digital camera and having gotten a new one, so I don't have any pictures to refer to. :p

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: Fastest 5 years ever.
Happy Birthday, HLP!

Five years ago, eh? *does magic math* ermm...hmm.....that'd be 2000.

Lets see, 2000 I was still at Droidarena, still writing for them i think. Back then i was about to head to Junior College (my first year) and was generally wary of going into a social environment (still am)

In five years time, i'll be 25 years old. If i can somehow get rid of this lethargicness their are a lot of things that could happen. I'd have a 25% chance of having developed the storyline for a game then, a 5% chance of having participated in the WCG (assuming DoTA becomes one of the games and I decide to play it and practice), a 20% chance that i'd have committed suicide, a 20% chance that i'd be in college doing my degree in India, a 20% chance that i'd be doing it in the US instead, and finally a 10% chance i'd be on the street begging for my last few ruppees before I go find somewhere to kill myself quitely.

Yup, a rosy outlook indeed! (no sarcasm)

Re: Fastest 5 years ever.
Five years? Criminey.

Five years ago, I was... hmm. I'd just finished year 10, ending one of the best years I'd had as far as friends and suchlike went at high school, plus I got out of my 3 year stint in Catholic school. I think I was also just about to start some work experience at the local museum, which was cool.

Five years from now... hmm... I'll be 25, probably be finishing up my first contract as an underground geo up north somewhere, hopefully preparing to go travelling. If I'm extremely lucky though, I'll be writing for a living by then... though TBH I doubt it.

Re: Fastest 5 years ever.
5 years ago I was still a little child in high school. I had some ideas of what I wanted, but at the time moving to the otherside of the world and starting a new life wasn't one of them.

5 years from now, I honestly don't know. If I can make most of these things work out as I hope it does, then I will still be in this country. What can I say? I like living here. :p
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Wow time has gone fast indeed! I'm not sure what I was doing at that time, but if the Volition BB was still up I probably was making my silly contribution to Tell A Story(anyone remember that?:D) . In RL : just turned 16 and so the Era Of Experimenting reached it's peak, resulting in a strange but fascinating life at the cost of record low grades at highschool. Luckily, this was followed by maturity started to reveal itself(on some occasions).
Five years from now: with some luck, I'm in MedSchool after finally having conquered my lack of discipline. Doubt that I've settled down but you'll never now.

And after winning the Jackpot I have bought the FS3 rights, given them to V and now everyone is enjoying FS3. In return there is a cheat that unlocks an insanely overpowered Hercules fighter after typing my name, I couldn't wish for a greater act of gratitude than that :pimp:

Five years ago... let's see, I would be about 12, which made me an ultra-n00b online, as my posts at the VBB showed. I plagued HLP for a few months with said n00bness, announcing a new campaign every other week, I think.

Still, HBD HLP!
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

5 years ago... I was on the VWBB, having been banned from the VBB for warez ( :wtf: ) and thinking to myself:

"We already have a freespace forum here... this new 'HLP' will probably fail... everyone comes here to the VWBB, why do we need two?"

But... yeah, i eventually reg'd... as Snipes...

5 years from now...? No idea. None of my plans seem to go as... err.. planned.
