Why can't I download anything from any HL hosted sites. That damn file server won't let me get anything

meaning it uses fileplanet..

All of them except for mine, because I never bothered to learn how to upload to fileplanet.

Oddly I've yet to actually download a file from fileplanet since they changed to that weird new system... if things don't get much easier I'll look at alternate ways of making the files available - sitting in a que of people for 80 minutes for a 1Mb file is sure as hell not A-1.

I use Fileplannet all the time, and once you under stand it can be pretty easy
BTW everything you say about fileplannet thats something you say about GameSpy
and you dont know how meny spies they have crawling around the forums nowadays

Hmm, I think Dr.Zer0 has a point, please stop with the direct slagging off of our hosts off-shoots. I don't want to own this as we might be able to work out how to get files to you guys more easily but if all I get from here is "Gamespy sucks" then I'll own the thread without remorse.

And on that note, Dr.Zer0, how do you go about getting files easily? can you write a little step-by-step guide on how to do it? I know theres instructions but hell, theres got to be a fast way.

...this is pretty wierd. Under this same system, I used to just Ctrl-Alt click with GetRight and I would get the file. Now... nothing. Wierd - I'll go email Thrrpppt!. Or however you spell it...

Well first of all I go to a file hosted by GameSpy, if it takes you to fileplannet thats good. Select a location to download from, I'll give an example as  Los Angeles, CA. It should show a screen that pops saying "FilePlanet Download System" on the top of it, and 2 buttons saying "Let's Go!" and "No Thanks" press "Let's Go!" and whait, after whaiting a download thing should should appear and you choose were to download it to and it will download, done

Thunder: Why not setup an account on one of those "online hard drive" places and give everyone the login and pass?  Hell, even I can mirror some of the stuff on some of my accounts on various free servers.

This is what I was thinking, they may frown on it but if it makes things run faster (and theres only so many FS/IW2 fans who want to download stuff) then why not? Fileplanet seems more of an inconvienience than a bonus right now...

its not frowned upon...  it's downright disallowed  

well, on Telefragged anyways, but i'm sure GS have the same rules...  it keeps the bandwidth off their main servers...

If we put major/popular files on our main server, HLP will slow to a crawl...

its catch22 all over again
