 Definately one of the most original starts I've seen for a mission.

La la la la la, flying around with that Vasudan Corvette. No way you're gonna lose this mission, cause no bomber's gonna get through the Corvette AND you. Suddenly "Massive jump point forming!" Ravana blasts the corvette with it's LReds and leaves you stunned as it jumps out. That scared the crap outta me.

Firing a pair of ASMs at the Chinese cruiser 'Badi Dea', pulling up and looking behind me to see not only my two missiles, but the other six from the rest of the formation streaking towards the target...

*Chasing a pair of Seraphim bombers as they flew in towards the GTD Panache(Orion), then watching an Aeolus fly out from behind it, open fire with both main beams at the Ravana behind me and the bombers, and seeing the beams go by me on either side, cutting one of the bombers in half.  

*The first nebula mission.

*Capella going Nova(of course)  

*Destroying the Knossos... then watching the Sathanas jump in anyway.

*The Boedacia station exploding and leaving behind the Iceni.


FS1:

*The Lucifer jumping in on "Playing Judas"

*Escorting those transports past the Lucifer's blockade

*Dogfighting that first Scorpion

Derelict had a bunch of those wonderfull "OH, **** " moments, one of the most memorable was when the Narlathotep transmited that Shivan signal and the other shivans jumped in. and then there was the mission were that knossos jumped in, at first thought I thought something had gone nova.

The moment when the Shivans first appeared in mission in FS1. I had completely forgotten about them (and the intro) so it seemed a major surprise (to me).

And the moment I managed to play FS2 Demo at a respectiable screen rate (my computer initially had set it to 32-bit colour and 1024*756 (or whatever the resolution was). Then I realised I just had to buy the game.
