No offense, but I, personally, have seen enough of that stretched out model.

If anything it needs at all, is a new texture that actually goes with its "Streched" figure. StarFleet ships usually have a "round" command center, this one is an oval... No startrek ships have an oval saucer in StarTrek, the closest thing that comes to it is a Sovereign, and thats not completely oval, at least not as oval as your ship.

yeah, and the phasers are the wrong color.  They're a dark grey, not a bright red.

This is not the same model. If you actually took a good look, you'd realize that. No wierd spikes on top, three nacelles, phasers mounted on the back nacelles, it is not the same ship. It's actually closer to the refitted Galaxy.

You have to start thinking about who you are making this model for... You or the public.
The public don't want a model that just looks stretched, they want a completely new one or a copy of a Star Trek ship.

Why don't you try and make some kind of hybrid like on that station in ST-Voyager Elite Force?

Thats a little tricky isn't it? almost every single ST ship is based around the same core principles of two nacelles, a saucer section and so on.

And what happens when they want to show somethings "in the future"? They...wait for it....stick another nacelle on! Woah!

Actually if you think about it, they're not unlike us. In the ST universe (at least as far as the Federation is concerned) the only way they know how (or maybe the best way) to propel ships is with the nacelles (to make the warp bubble, blah, blah, blah).

It's the same with us, they only way we know how to make cars go is with four wheels (or planes with two wings, etc).

And maybe the saucer part is because that's how they figured out how to best store the people as well as making the ship streamlined so that it's easier to deflect all the interstellular junk around the ship.

Granted, just like how we'll have different variations on a mode of transportation (motorcycles, helicopters, etc), so does ST (the Defiant).

Joe.

Granted, but this is a fictional universe, we're confined by out understanding of the universe, a concept artist for ST should be able to throw off that particular chain and go wild with his designs (withing keeping of the "human design" thing). I just think ST could do better...

There's a lot of room with the whole '2x nacelle + primary hull' aesthetic.  Sure, there's some butt-ugly ships out there (Vger, the E-D) but there's some hellaciously sweet ones as well. (Akira, Steamrunner)

But the Steamrunnner, Defiant and Venture (not to mention the others - I'm not completely ignorant of the multitude of ships) are all a little to "samey" anyway. I'm not sure why but they just seem a little... lacking in concept. Although given their due there are some cool ships out there.

But don't you think current day warships look a little samey? It's just the median that they've found versatile.

In the original series, i just feel pity for the "guy in the red shirt" if you watch or watched the original ST series with wil Shatner (don't let his banal monologues suck you in like a black hole) you'll see what i mean.

The RedShirts are just classics. A bit like Stormtroopers, except they can occasionally hit something and have a 100% death rate instead of the Stormtrooper's 85%.
