"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Well, it was all a joke...

So HLP crew you can add one stupid guy, (me), to your "Who's going to be so nerd to believe this" list.

But I must ask, what the hell is April Fools? Is it an English/American tradition? Here in Spain we make jokes in December 28th, (El día de los Santos Inocentes = Innoncent Saints Day), with fake news and so on. So yesterday I couldn't imagine it was a Jokes Day of any kind...

Please forget my previous post, it's really rude.
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLES WITH FS2:
  • Please, please, please, READ and UNDERSTAND the sticky threads in FreeSpace & FreeSpace Open Support board.
A lot of people are willing to help you, but, as anyone can understand, seeing the very same "issues" repeated again and again can become quite depressing. Please, spend a bit of time trying to solve the issue by yourself.
    (Lobo deserves a monument).
  • Then, if you aren't still able to solve your issue, feel free to ask for help in that same board.
FYI, most of the troubles are caused by wrong mod installations which lead to either missing data or undesired cross-effects between them. Always follow the mod installation instructions and keep a clean FS2 installation as explained in the sticky threads. Two additional links about how the game handles game data:
  • If you think that you've discovered a bug, mantis it.
Provide as much info as you can, and try to narrow it down. A lonely "FS2 doesn't work" is not a good report.

Whoever Hanlon was: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

The whole April Fool's message board language filter thing might have qualified as minutely clever a few years ago, but it's so utterly common these days that to even call it boring would be a compliment. Even if you find it funny once, having to read an entire filtered forum is like having to listen to someone tell the same (lame) joke over and over and over and over and over for an entire day.

The point of April Fool's is to fool people, right? If the only people you can fool are idiots or people who don't even know about April Fool's day, that says something about the quality of your prank right there.

It's fun, sure, it isn't exactly original but if people are going to get annoyed because one day a year they can't get much modding added to the oh so much we do already, then they really are being rather anal about it. Yes, it was silly, but better than announcing Freespace 3 or something equally stupid. I enjoyed it anyway, at least ,what I could understand :)

Not sure where it comes from...but its seemingly a English tradition of some sort.  It may be strictly a North American thing...I'm not sure.  But you should not believe anything that happens anywhere online in reference to anything North American on April 1st.  Usually its a half day of pranks...

Some people take it further than others.

April 1st is also common in the german speaking parts of Europe, probably more.

  • In the morning!
It was a very nice change from the usual, cept I wish it didn't creep into the General Freespace/Campaigns forums.  As long as it doesn't goof up everything for weeks on end, I'm all for it, even going as far and changing the motif for certain holidays.
but then we wouldn't want to offend anyone now would we......

Yes.

I never was exactly clear on how much of that train wreck was intentional, and how much (if any) of it was accidental. Either way, it was ugly.

I consider it a small miracle they didn't break the database this time.

By next year I expect they will have improved, and manage to wipe everything.
Including hosted projects.

Last year was class. It was chaos&panic all over the place. I found it especially amusing that certain people started brown-nosing 'anon' in hope for privileges(?) on the new anon-run HLP ..... it was priceless.

This year's was nice, but the drama of last year is hard to top.
