Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
Basically Kalfireth, it cuts to a hospital room with a shot over the shoulder of the patient in bed focused on the doctor, the friend of Xavier, checking his stats. Turns out it's the guy with no consciousness, we see him turn his head, and in Xavier's voice say something like "Hello Marie", resulting in a look of dramatic shock on Marie.

Basically Xavier's alive, though how he kept his own voice..... although I suppose he could've said that telepathically.
Watch out for the Guns! They'll getcha!

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
Ahh.. so they killed both him and Magneto off but not really.. nice.

Cheers for the explanation. It'll be interesting to see what any possible sequel holds...

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
UT, I felt really sorry for him too, but just ending with him sitting there, completely alone, reduced to a doddering old fool, just wouldn't have sat right with me.  I like the idea that this "mutant panacea" wasn't really some cure-all for the whole mutant issue.  It also opens up the question of what'll happen to Rogue; if this vaccine isn't really effective, she'll wind up getting a rude awakening sooner or later.

Or actually, Bobby will. :p

Because McKellan was much better suited to the role.

He doesn't get to say 'darling' at any point though, does he?

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
Well, he did a good job at the role, I'll never deny that, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was suited to it, Ian McKellan is a good actor, and he did a good job, which is what he gets paid for. Rutger Hauer has his bad days, he got roped into a lot of cheesy medieval 'tit-flicks' after BladeRunner, but whenever I read the Marvel Comics and see Magneto, I always get a Rutger Hauer type impression from him.

Ian McKellan in not Magneto in the same way the Patrick Stewart is Xavier, at least not in my opinion.

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
Probably Yes for both Hauer and Stewart to a degree, but Hauer has an intensity when acting that I always thought matched Magneto pretty well, that love of drama, and Stewart does have that cold, incisive way of talking that made him a good match for Xavier's character as well.

Let's face it, they could make a film of Patrick Stewart reading the phonebook and most people would still pay a fiver to get in.

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
LOL True, he's pretty popular at the moment, good for him too, he worked bloody hard as one of the 'Also Starring' for a long time :)

I think it's the voice, 'Mr LaForge set course.... For T'Pub!'

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
Rutger Hauer just doesn't seem like he'd fit the part very well. I can't see him having the same kind of Vaderish politely-evil attitude with the same kind of potency.

Re: X-Men: The Last Stand
Well, I keep thinking of the scene where he meets his creator in Blade Runner, he was polite, almost jovial, intelligent and, just under the surface, furious. I always felt that Magneto was more that kind of character, though once again, my experience with Marvel Comics may taint things here, since I'm expecting to see the 'Onslaught'ness of him hovering just under the surface :)
