Bah... I personally don't find this as funny as many of you do. Reason provided next:
When I went to Finnish army, there was a guy in same company that went haywire after few weeks and jumped off the barracks roof after saying that God will save him. I didn't really know the guy nor did I see the event but according to quite reliable sources he did babble about God saving him even after he had jumped and regained consciousness... I don't really know what happened to him afterwards or how extensive his injuries were but he ain't going back into service, that's for sure.
So I wouldn't automatically rank the man stupid, more likely he was just some poor guy who got unlucky and flipped inside his head. That can happen even without the stupidity. Though the "if" word in what this lion lunch said before jumping is quite baffling... you see, the guy who jumped off the roof was completely sure that god existed and would save him. Well, AFAIK he didn't die so perhaps he indeed was saved... whereas the man who jumped to lions dared to doubt with the word "if" and hence wasn't saved. Though that's quite unlikely IMO... More likely it's just the barracks not being high enough to be as lethal as the lion that made the difference.
