I'd tend to agree with Turambar, except I think the human race might be going backwards.

...Voltaire...
Why is everyone more ed-u-makated then me? The only thing I know about Voltaire was that he was involved in the French reveloution, I'm not even sure if it was directly or indirectly.

Oh wait, your over 20

I still have a ways to go.

People like hese idiots simply polute the gene pool of the human species. Not that the human species as a whole are woth much. From mi point og view actualy. The humans are not much better then animals and in many cases even worse. But still one can only hope for better human ace in the future.

Just because I don't know about Voltaire?  :(
 ;)
Well, I guess he's not polluting the gene pool anymore.

I'm sure everyone here already knows about them, but just a subtle reminder: Darwin Awards

Has nothing to do with you or with Voltaire Mars. It was a comment to the freaking idiot that got killed by the lions. Oh and a general comment at that since most of the human race is a very minor step above animals. Well at least some of them are above dont know about the rest. Dont take it personal guis this arguemnt is based on all the s**t that people make eachother go through like wars famine and all that stuff.

Depending on what measure you're using, humans are a lot better than animals. I mean, we're delving into the obscure areas of the laws of physics, and there's almost nowhere on Earth we can't live. Most animals are only adapted to certain areas.

From another point of view: At least the animals don't completely screw up the environment.

See? 'Better' is a term that needs qualifying. It's being applied to a multidimensional field.

Re: Man: God will protect me from the lioness, Lioness: O'RLY?
we've gotten to a point in the evolution of the human race where religion is no longer necessary to instill morals in people, and is starting to have the opposite effect.  we're in the transition phase right now.  of course it makes sense that the religious will act in a hostile manner when confronted with this, but it'll pass.  if not in our lifetimes, than later in human history.

O RLY?

I seem to recall that Voltaire said something similar.

"Dogma leads to fanaticism and strife; morality everywhere inspires harmony."

err.. i was just refering to humans actualy beeing inferior tu animals. Why? Because animals dont kill eachother for the fun of it. animals dont torture eachother for the fun of it and they sre as hell dont comite stupid acts of suicide in the hope that some animal god will help them. Oh and they dont tras the planet the same way humans do.

Re: Man: God will protect me from the lioness, Lioness: O'RLY?
Bah... I personally don't find this as funny as many of you do. Reason provided next:

When I went to Finnish army, there was a guy in same company that went haywire after few weeks and jumped off the barracks roof after saying that God will save him. I didn't really know the guy nor did I see the event but according to quite reliable sources he did babble about God saving him even after he had jumped and regained consciousness... I don't really know what happened to him afterwards or how extensive his injuries were but he ain't going back into service, that's for sure.

So I wouldn't automatically rank the man stupid, more likely he was just some poor guy who got unlucky and flipped inside his head. That can happen even without the stupidity. Though the "if" word in what this lion lunch said before jumping is quite baffling... you see, the guy who jumped off the roof was completely sure that god existed and would save him. Well, AFAIK he didn't die so perhaps he indeed was saved... whereas the man who jumped to lions dared to doubt with the word "if" and hence wasn't saved. Though that's quite unlikely IMO... More likely it's just the barracks not being high enough to be as lethal as the lion that made the difference.

Re: Man: God will protect me from the lioness, Lioness: O'RLY?
actualy know cases o someone falling off a 1.5 m ladder and died. And oanother one fell from a 1 m ladder and got pinned to a wheelchair while another one fell from the 4th flour of a building and got just 3 broke ribs. Hows that for ....er......i dont know what to call it. Its true i personaly know both the guy who got pinned to a wheelchair and the guy who fell from the 4'th flour.

Um, on the other hand, the things that give us the capacity for doing stupid things are also what make us the dominant species on this planet.

No arguement form me! He might as well strapped a bomb to him go wandering through the desert and pull the trigger while asking for God to come and save him. Same effect-death...altough in rather different and more scattered way! :P
"Lord, what should i do when i pull the pin?"
"Well, the standard operating procedure is scatter yourself over as wide an area as possible."
