Just a question, did anyone tried to make any FS ship out of lego? I think that the Orion or the Colossus would be amazingly easy to do.

Yeah

I have a feeling someone did the Valkyrie a while back, in particular.

Omg that star destroyer is so cute. It reminds me of when I went "AAAAAAAAW" when I saw the Sathanas minicap model. I want a plush minicap. *nods*

:D That's actually an official set from the SW mini line. I got a bunch of the mini AT-ATs a few years ago just because they came with several of the very rare 24-tooth half width bevel gears.

I think the Ursa or Apollo wouldn't be too difficult to build in minifig scale. I might have to try doing one of those sometime.

I just spent several hours making ldraw renditions of some of the models, so I can take them apart if I want to and still rebuild them in the future. I think I'm getting the hang of this mlcad program now.

Can you post a link to wherever you got that Lego CAD program?  I got one from the Lego site and it was horrible.  Didn't give me the pieces I needed...

This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address occurred during the same week.  This is an ironic juxtaposition of events--one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, while the other involves a groundhog.

A detailed Orion would be pretty hard to do unless it's made to be quite huge. I've been thinking about an Ursa though, which can be made pretty accurate and in minifig scale.

http://www.ldraw.org

Get the "LDraw tools installer" there. The program is called MLcad and comes with that package. It's pretty robust at this point and the LDraw Q1 '05 package has most of the available parts, although its renderer sucks. LDview has a better renderer but can't edit the models.

I was joking about the Orion (because it's a flying brick) :), wouldnt a Zeus be easier to do?

Hmm, I would post a picture of the Sathanas I built from Legos...except that it's packed away right now and I can't get to it.  Should be able to in, say...a week.

And no, its not to scale to the little Lego guys.
He had said it,

:necro:

Been working on more of this stuff lately, now that I'm on break again. (click the pics for the full size)

These are identical and can fold up for transport; I plan to make four in total and and put them all inside a much larger carrier I'm working on:

It's not obvious in the picture, but the extra motor was added to power the stabilizers along with the necessary polarity switches:

I managed to acquire some of the old monorail sets recently and combined them to make this:

And here are various mods of some official sets:

You can never be too old for Lego. :D Unlike most people, I never quite lost interest in them. It's a lot easier to sustain the hobby now than when I was younger, as I can buy stuff much more easily now. There is actually a fairly large community of adult Lego hobbyists around the world, so you could say I'm one of them.

Exactly. In fact, if you've played my campaign, you will recognize what the 161st squad logo was inspired by.

Roanoke, the Lego company have professionals that they pay to think of Lego ideas...i wouldn't be surprised if some of them were in their 40s  :nervous:

Next time I'm home, I might finally indulge the whim of gathering up all of my Lego models in one spot and grabbing a picture of them.  I never really got into the whole "imagine-your-own-vehicle" thing, but I have to have at least a good 75 or so completed Lego System models sitting in my room gathering dust.  I remember I used to love all of the old Blacktron/Space Police/Ice Planet models.  The pride and joy of my collection is a 900-piece pirate ship model sitting over my head.
