Re: The Freespace Legacy
Care to make a bet on the whole incompetent arguement about High Command?? :D :P

But you are right Mars they are hiding something.

Well the juggs were only good as long as they had theyr beams intact take out theyr beams and you cand sens in the warships to finish off the Sathani. Altough i'l give you that taking out the beams of over 80 Sathani jugs is a most ipresive task to achieve but still its better then letting then rape the GTVA.

also the fact that they completely ignored the GTVA and went towards Capella tends to sugest that crushing the GTVA was never they true intent...this time.....!

Replay FS1 and FS2, the Shivans never fully postured towards defeating navies, rather they targeted systems and key points. Notice how in FS1 the Shivans attacked the major fortresses and the capitals.  In FS2, we never hear about major fortresses but rather all about how Capella is a key system, notice it gets attacked.   I'm not bringing up any theories in this case(too tired for that) but I must say, the Shivans never had a campaign offensive against the GTVA navy, unless you count the initial incursion during FS1, where the Shivans attacked forces on all front.

Re: The Freespace Legacy
If anyone would be getting rights to the FreeSpace series...you can bet that the folks at Volition would.  The last time I talked about FreeSpace with them I got the distinct sense (this was in person) that they very much loved the series that they had created and would do anything to bring the series back in the future.  It may take some time....

Didn't DaveB also post basicly the same thing(through Sandwich)?

Re: The Freespace Legacy
Would be great, they'd just better keep the Aeolus. :wtf:

Considering what the current engine is capable of, I wonder what they'd do to make the graphics more apealing, or if they'd bother, they know they have a captive audience.

Re: The Freespace Legacy
I'd imagine that fs3 would be something more revolutionary than anyone would want to consider too much. In fs3 volition may have been setting up a system for fighters to have beams or something. More countermeasure weapons or something. Fs3 would probably have a different array of weapons period, though i think everyone would consider this an obvious thing. If fs3 were to come out today, it might be safe to say they would be designing a new game engine for the game. Technology today is so much better than it was in 1999, but then again so is the engine. Volition would probably make a new game engine if they were trying to go after different gameplay, which how different could fs3 gameplay be from fs1 or fs2? In fs3 it'd definitely be harder to be pilot than ever before with always having to deal with new weapons and forces in each game being thrown at the pilot. Since fs gameplay wouldn't really be changing other than weapons used, volition would be very intelligent to check out the fso engine. I bet that'd save them a lot of time when considering an engine for fs3. Volition would most likely use a modified fs2 engine for the game anyway(sort of like how fs2 is a modified fs1 engine).
On another note, an0n is pretty crazy in the linked thread about derek smart. Screw derek smart if he's an asshole, or like how an0n put it comparing him to an asshat  That was great.

Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

Re: The Freespace Legacy
FSO is based on FS2 which is based on FS1 which is based on Descent 2 which is based on Descent 1, which the people in the Interplay breakaways say they more or less threw together.

Some throwing together; I wish the things I threw together worked out like that. In the end though, all :v: would really need to do is modify the Source Code Project for their engine.

Re: The Freespace Legacy
yeah, about maybe 12 years or so. ;)
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Command isn't incompitant, they're hiding somthing.

Yeah. Alpha 1. The only known pilot able to single-handedly kill a Shivan Juggernaught.

On topic: I, myself, would only consider it FS3 if it were from good ol  :v:. But, I would think that FS3 would probably involve

*possible FS2 spoilers.*

the construction of a Knossos at the Delta Serpentis/Sol node. And then ships warping through to find Earth nice and mauled by the ships that DID get through the node when Lucy made her fateful jump. That'd be... depressing though.

Re: The Freespace Legacy
You know, those are some obvious spoilers. And that'd be a good storyline at that too. There's a lot lucifer fragments in sol after it exploded too. I wouldn't give too much of a **** about fs3 at all if it existed from  :v: or derek smart(preferably from  :v: of course in my opinion too), unless it sucked ass. And even at that, the technology for fs3 would be something great for the hlp community to mess around with. Like different weapons, different ships, and the game engine. Perhaps, but no one wants an fs3 to exist to suck ass to just mess around with it. The hlp in the end at an advent of no fs3 is much better off sticking to it's own guns than if an fs3 with a superior engine existed and the game sucked ass. I like to be hopeful of course and think and feel that an fs3 will come to eventuality when interplay fixes itself or someone buys the license. If i were a rich mofo, i'd look into buying the license myself just to have it, look into getting some people from the hlp together and figure out what to do with it, and then see if  :v: would even want it to make a sequel. Or at least if  :v: would guide and direct those here at the hlp to making an fs3 from that would be straight from the horse's mouth.
I'd imagine possibly another spoiler for fs3 would be that the gtva would be even more united than before since cooperation from the 2 species was powerful enough in devising a plan and stopping the shivans in fs2 from previous experience in fs1. Sorry i might be sucking a little to much hopeful ass myself right now too. Maybe i should go back to feeling normal than really good :p
