Capella Space Anomaly
http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Shivans

In this article of the wiki, under the "history" sub-section, there exists a mention of a "space anomaly that [the supernova] left behind."

This is the first I've heard of this anomaly. Is that canon?

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
There was never any mention of any subspace disturbance being left over in Capella. The wiki tends to be great, but I've noticed that recently there's been a surge of noncanonical material attempting to pass off as canon.

neoterran: canon = information, story, or anything in Freespace condoned by :v: or present when FS2 was released.

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
Beside the fact that, that part of space is completely cut-off from terran-vasudan space after the supernova, so how would anybody know there was an anomaly there in the first place?

no.

i'll have a quick edit and correct the grammar, I think the original author just phrased it badly.

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
I bet the sathani that did warp out did a really extremely long range in system jump before the star went kablooie maybe in an attempt to get outside of the supernova radius. I bet a juggernaut of sathanas size would have one ****ing amazing jump drive. It's no doubt that the shivans would possess jump drives of greater range than the terrans or vasudans.
I know an insystem jump is dependant on being within a stars gravity pull. No one says that it's different or the same for shivans doing an insystem jump though. Besides it'd be nice to know if the gravity pull from a star changes in any way if it goes nova. That'd probably be a determinant factor...for gtva ships trying to pull off warping out right in front of a star about to go nova

Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

1. Capella system would not be completely cut off. Conventional radioastromical and optical technique may still record the event and what's left of it.

2. the star's gravity field does not change shortly after the nova.

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
You would have to wait several years before anyone was in a close enough position to Capella to record the results though. There's nothing within at least 10 LY of Capella that actually appears in the game (Unless you want one of the made up stars to be that close).

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
Not to mention that the act of observing a supernova from that close would kill you.  The radiation would reach you the moment you notice the first flash of light.

As for the subspace anomaly, they might have been referring to this:

-from Command Briefing for one of the later missions in FS2-
"Over 80 Shivan Juggernauts are now in position around the Capella sun.  Science vessels that have been monitering their activity have detected an anomalous subspace field rippling from the juggernaut fleet.  Though we can barely detect the field with our instruments, it's intensity has been growing slowly over the past [forgot what the number was] hours."

Yeah, that's by memory, so I might have gotten a few words wrong or something... but you get the idea.

Yeah, the blastwave(shockwave) would be the least of your worries. Supernovas release Gamma ray bursts that can release more energy in 10 seconds than the Sun will emit in its entire 10 billion-year lifetime! You'd probably turn into jello if you were in the system and it supernova'd. Very, very hot jello, that is.

Yep that'd be what I think they are trying to get across in the Wiki...just very badly.  There was a subspace anomaly that the Sathanas fleet was generation.  That much is canon.  On if that anomaly remains later on...thats a different story.

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
Can anyone with VP view or w\e, check the Ani or brifeing ani of the ending cutseen. Do all the sathi jump in the same direction or different directions????

This is a good question. As, many people have said in the other Sathi\capella threads around here recently, 'they jump to another universe' or they create a new node and jump in it. Well, they would all be traveling to the same place, so do they all jump the same way, or do they scaatter jump?

And one more thing to look for. What direction do most of the sahit jump to?
A) is there a more common direction?
-Some may be fleeing the supernova, some may be traveling to the 'destination universe' if there is a noticable common direction.

Re: Capella Space Anomaly
They're all facing capella. Not that the direction in which a jump is entered ever mattered in any case.
