Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
Teaser : http://www.theshadowchronicles.com/trailer.php?id=nateaser&size=480

Here's some interesting footage showing the cell shading work and also another full trailer at the end of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wB_Iov3EB8&mode=related&search=

Finally has a distributor.

If you ever wondered what happened to Scott Bernard, Admiral Hunter and the 3rd Robotech Expeditionary Force at the end of the 3rd Robotech Series, this answers it in the form of a 2 hour animated/cell shaded 3D movie, hopefully to be followed by a series (if it is successful)

So go out and support it! What do you guys think ? I loved the original Robotech, especially the third series, so this looks really cool to me  :p

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
I only saw the first saga (up to SDF-1 and -2 getting blown by Khyron), but I know the general synopsis up to Saga 3. I'm glad to see they're continuing.

Excellent!

Yeah, the third series was awesome.  Am I the only one who wants an Alpha/Beta fighter scale model/toy?  Preferably transformable ;7  Toys from the 'original' (Mospedia) are just about impossible to find.  Let's hope this movie spurs a new toy line much like the nice Veritechs...

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
If this movie is successful in any way (and there is some good initial feedback from those who've seen it) we should be well on our way to seeing some nice part-metal shadow alphas

Check out this Alpha/Beta : http://www.robotech.com/gallery/galimage/viewgalimage.php?id=69

That rocks.

Can you say SDF-3 ? I'd like it !

by the way.... is this our beloved SCP coder ? I'd like to imagine so ! The truth is probably too much to bear  ;)

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
The only two things I dislike about HG is: a.) Tried to sue the original Macross liscence holders.  B.) Robotech (The untold story). Macek tried to do a new hack job with scenes from megazone 23 and some other series. Needless to say it flopped badly. I actually saw the trailer on P2P, I lost 2 minutes of my life LOL...

Robotech was the best hatchet job I ever saw. He took 3 totally seperate and unrelated shows and made one saga out of it. The script was a little weak, but the actors are the ones who made it work.

Now as for RT:SC... The jury is still out in my book. Initially after the trailer I had a bad feeling. When you start replacing voice actors and re-imagining (no offense BSG), you lose focus of the story and alienate fans.

Someone needs to check the credits to make sure B&B (Brainless and Brainded of Star Trek) are not involved in that project.. :D (Guess what producers have in common with Engineers? "They just LOVE to change things!" - McCoy.)

As for the Mckinney books I mostly loved them, only the last book was totally wigged out (End of the Circle). As a result I have been writting my own fanfiction to explain what happened to the SDF-3 and its crew.

Harmony Gold as a company may have sucked, but it's not the same company now that it was 10 to 20 years ago. Many people have left. Carl Macek is no longer there, etc. This project is led by Tommy Yune, who is a pretty cool guy and has some respect for Robotech as a whole.

Yes, everyone knows this. Robotech created a cool story in it's own right and I feel that Robotech can actually kind of live on its own as a seperate world to Macross, Mospeada etc. You can also enjoy the original stories that they're based on, but I really prefer the whole protoculture story it's kind of neat.

All the characters in SC that orignally existed in New Generation, Macross etc are using the original english voice actors, so no worries there. Plus we get Mark Hamil for the new characters like Bowie Grant and also new actors for characters like Maia Sterling.

The Mckinney books after then main series (IE the sentinels) are not Canon, at all, although they were mostly interesting. However, some of the characters, such as T.R. Edwards, were reimagined by the Waltrip Brothers for a series of Comic Books they made on the Sentinels and really they told the Sentinels story and the SDF-3 the best. If you read "Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles" they wrap up their Sentinels storyline nicely and also explain why the SDF-3 looks the way it does in the SC. They're worth reading as they introduce the new characters well too. SOme of the characters from the Sentinels are in SC. (like Bowie Grant and Breetai... w00t !)

As far as the End of the Circle, I read it, it was really far out and kind of just, silly.

Meh...Robotech sort of lost it's appeal for me when I reached puberty. Neat looking trailer though.
EDIT: But about that trailer...it's a straight to English movie, right?
So why does the animation of the characters bely that of a series, and the animation of their mouths stick to the usual anime open closed open closed open closed talking style?

GO MACROSS! :D

Ooooh...Looks cool.  Never actually saw an episode, but I had a friend who was really into it.  I have seen Macross though.  The first one I felt was really good, but the second one was horrible.  Too much of a love story in the middle of a battlefield.

Trivia:  What real life jet fighter is the Veritech based on?  And what happened to said fighter at the beginning of this year?

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
The orignal Veritech Valkyrie, which is in Macross, was based off the F-14 fighter, which is no longer in service.

However, the fighter that is in Invid Invasion Series (3) and in Shadow Chronicles is the Veritech Alpha fighter, which is not based on a real life fighter (but it looks hella cool anyway, right ?  :D )

As for Robotech being for only pre-pubescent boys (or girls) I have to disagree. You could say the same thing about Freespace/PC Gaming in general, couldn't you.

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
Yeah the F-14 is gone (Sniff), but at least the F-35 JSF has 2 Lasers! (article said "to be installed")

I was 12-13 when RT was broadcast initially, so I was defiantely POST pubescient. :P

Did you have to quote the message that extensively Neo? (as yours was the very next post hehe)

So far the only thing I saw for RT:SC was a UN Trailer and with diff voices for Scott and Marleen (sounded like Spike Spiegle from Beebop [Groan!]and I thought I recognized the girl also).

The McCoy quote is famous from STTMP (First movie). I altered it to reflect how most Trek fans felt about Brannon and Braga tromping all over Trek lore and Gene's vision for the franchise since his death. (as a fan since TOS reruns in the 70's I have very strong opinions on that subject.)

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
The UN trailer was weird, but it wasn't using the real voice actors and it's not using footage that's actually in the series either. It was exclusively made for the UN and the dialog was totally out of character. I have no idea why they called it Shadow Chronicles, that was pretty weird... but you saw the other trailers i posted right ? Much better  :D

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
Sorry I skipped them.

This started as a PM reply but I figured it would be more constructive as a post even though this is in Hard Light and a RT:SC thread..

Don't understand what you are saying...

If I get you right in short you are basicly saying YOU want a SC's mod and think that would make this mod 'popular'.

Sorry this goes against my feelings about anime continuity for over 27 years. Ironicly while Macross (Japanese) people denounce it, when it comes to Robotech I am a "purist".

No offense, but this mod will be 'popular' for the same reasons the sources were in 1982 (till the present) are, cause people remember. If this means a 'New generation' who is raised and introduced only to RT:SC doesn't join the main fanbase, then that's their loss.

This mod (as most mods are) was not intended to make itself popular or to garner attention for any one person, but to bring a cherished franchise to a new medium (The PC). Since I an expanding the work of the original team, my goal was to enrich that which already has come before and try to flesh it out as much as possible.

This means Only series 1-3, the Sentinels Movie, and the Mckinney books will be used. I have never seen any of the comics (and no desire to) and they already stated on robotech.com the backstory will have some critical changes, so I am ignoring them.

As Mod Coordinator it's my decision ultimately what goes in out out of the mod and I suggest you read the forum on Game-Warden (who is hosting the mod) and read all the nice stickies I thoughtfully left in detail to be as open and informative as possible.

The majority of this desicion comes from a love of the anime itself. It's not that I am not open to change or compromise but this has mostly been a solo act for the last 3 years and the majority of the out-side community contributors feel exactly the same way I do...

(Devs of the HW2 and RT MMO projects).

I hope this clears up any vagueness about the Mod's mission statement.

Linky to Mod Forum: http://www.game-warden.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2

Now returning this thread to it's original purpose...

I hope they do well.

Well, at least we're getting End of the Circle out of the continuity...jury shall remain out, however.

Personally, though, the extension of the Robotech saga I'll back over any other is the Third Invid War fan-made supplement to the RPG.

Re: Robotech : Shadow Chronicles
I'm not totally sure when TIW was made, but it was concurrent with Robotech being run on Cartoon Network, so I suspect 95 or so. It was never completed; the guy disappeared. But it's mostly done. Lemme see if I can dig out the site. There's a PDF of everything floating around somewhere too.

EDIT: Ah, here we go. Third Invid War supplement, in all its glory. http://www.steelfalcon.com/thirdinvidwar.html

I'm shocked  :eek2:, "Oh my God , they killed Lancer!"

(Kyle floats by in a Cyclone) "You Bastards!"

 :wtf:

Anyway, Lancer was 10 times more bearable than "She who will not be named!"

I may or may not use TIW in my fanfic, I have a lot of the Palladium books but only the first few RT ones so this is both informative and unexpected...  :(
