My *ahem* Tribute to Windows Vista ;)
Click HERE to download it. It's only 50K but letter sized so it'll print out nicely.

Bonus points if you recognize the advertising campaign that inspired it.

You forgot "Windows Vista Starter" and the "N-editions" for the European market ;)

There's MORE?! I got those names off a page on the Microsoft site, dated sometime in Feburary.

Will Vista be backwards compatible? as in, stuff that works in XP will work in Vista?

I quite like my vista install. I really wish people would quit bashing the software until they atleast try it.

[Oh, and if you are trying to make a statement about how there are so many versions and it being a logistics nightmare for support, you need to take into account that for each of the versions (ultimate, home, enterprise, business, and premium) there are x86 and x64 versions which are based on entirely different code bases {so Ive been told, and believe}]

I probably buy Vista when it comes out. But there is a step price for buying even the first edition of it. And thats just an upgrade. The one that I want cost around $250 dollars. I think thats the Home Premium Edition. Hopefully it holds to the hype.

Re: My *ahem* Tribute to Windows Vista ;)
Ok, that totes up FIFTEEN versions of Windows Vista. Image download updated to match! :)

I decided the SEGA spoof was appropriate because that was used during the time when SEGA had the Master System, Genesis/Mega Drive, 32x, PowerBase, SEGA CD and bunches of other hardware on the market at the same time. Confused the heck out of their customers, many of whom went screaming to the warm bosom of Sony's Playstation and never came back.

It does. I played it a bit, but am waiting for my new video card to take some real glamour shots before going to try out some games that will really use the card.

I'm not getting Vista for a very long time, for the simple reason that it has massive system requirements for an OS...

Well what do you expect? You need that extra anti-spyware protection that Microsoft powerpoint gives you! :p

Is a 1Ghz CPu and 1GB+ Ram really all that much more than you have now? :wtf:

Using windows vista is so much nicer than using xp. Seriously, vista is a worthwhile upgrade.

What's the backwards compatability like? Can I play all my XP games on Vista? What about applications like Photoshop, Macromedia products and so on?

For me, the RAM is. I've been running on 512MB for a long time now (and that's with 2x 256 MB sticks in a mobo with only two slots). So for Vista I'd have to either buy all new RAM, or a completely new system.

Almost all of the games I have work. There was a small glitch with starcraft, and GTA2 didnt work, but I dont suspect many people still play those at this point. The issues may have also been resolved already.

Minimum standard for most PC's are 1Gb now. Honestly, I dont know how you can have XP and 512 Mb ram, and do much more than surf the internet (with IE) (FF uses a lot of ram on its own...)
