Meh, speaking of replacements I'd love to see Trek carried off in a bold new step forward.

You know, big ship with a crew including pretty much all the races we know and love going to other galaxies. Deal with races like the Andromedans, the machine planet that made V'Ger, etc.

If you need a villain, how about the race that seeded the humanoids? Have their society collapse, and the few people who harness their technology set themselves up as mage-lords. The difference between it and the cliche' chariot of the gods thing? They actually do think it's magic and not technology. (Solves my issue with Stargate which is why do so many non-gould have access to starship systems which by their very nature show that the gould aren't gods? If they had to have ships having them mind controlled like the Ori would make sense to keep the ruse...) ...and who wouldn't think it cool to see aliens in funny robes firing mini photon torpedoes like magic missiles?

Of course the two taboos would be not having extradimensional aliens or time travel. Except for two set aside multipart episodes. Godlike aliens welcome, but the fangasm tech that the Federation explorer team has is enough to make them more comic relief. (Trelane tries to teleport the team and finds his fingers hurting and the Andorian scientist smirking)

Both Star Trek and Stargate need to descent down from the hightech fantasy heavens. No more godlike awesome pwner mystic omnipotent wizard races. Or are we humans so badass dudes that no ordinary race can stand up against us? Remember Enterprise season 3? I liked it. The Xinthi were cool because they were just another race. Granted that they were manipulated by extradimensional beings, but that didn't really make much difference until the end...

I want to see down to earth man-to-man fair bloody fight for every inch of space/wormhole. Not some uber evil techno gods that no one stands a chance against, except the regular egghead who comes up with an idea to convert a desklamp in to a technothingamajing which kills every evil space god in the universe.

i think this new stargate series is to co-incide with stargate mmorpg and thier launching, i think this is all one last effort push before they, a) either get swallowed up by bsg or startrek, or b) they die out.

I am certain startrek will open another new series based on the romulan side of affairs with the federation, if not based on another star ship within the federation.(new startrek movie to be lanched around the same time of stargate)

either way more sci-fi means, i am not left wondering if sci-fi will be gone complelty from free to view tv.
If this stargate is launched in 2008 then its mostly likely going hit free tv in the uk in late 2009.

but i would like to see if the gou'ld truly die along with any system lords that remain, roll on stargate : <noname>

I am glad that they are ending the Ori storyline in the 2 direct to DVD movies, i hope in this new series the villians won't be all godlike beings to, i miss the goa'uld they may have advanced tech(stolen) but they are more believable than the Ori.

Just hope it will be as good as Atlantis is, i may get flamed for this but i now just mainly watch Atlantis, S10 of SG1 seems to be lacking a certain something that made the previous series so good, i just can't put my finger on it.

Maybe they'll return to manly men and womanly women. All the shows now the men and women are the same, except for the clothes. (Hmm, now that I think about it, the clothes are the same too.)

Hollywood's PC idea of the future.

Oh well, I can always take refuge in classic Star Trek reruns.

By Star Trek reruns you mean the pilot where women wore pants and the XO was a strong-willed brunette. Or do you mean the concessions made to Hollywood's PC idea of the future where women had to wear short skirts and be bare-foot pregnant in the kitchen? Exemplified in the oh-so-classic example of: ZOMG! Khan is beefcake! Have sex with me after slapping me and nearly killing everyone I know! Oh yes, I want that genetically modified exotic piece of ass!

Face it, you wouldn't know what to do if you were in a room with manly men or womanly women :p

Yes, that's the one! And they didn't have to, they wanted to, and they liked it!

I'm not talking about the one after that, the one where the bald headed weak guy says "Come" and the hermaphrodite "Wezley" all too willingly complies. LOL
