Hey Kazan, maybe this would be a good time to port FS1 and FS2 to Linux.

I was actually referring to Kazans earlier posting about the subject. He said that he's schwicthing to linux because "he wants not to be dependant of Microsoft" And that's just dumb, whatever you say.

Well..i suppose everyone needs a holiday at some point.

I'd run linux if -

1/ 3dlabs released validated drivers

2/ Discreet Ported 3dsmax...but softimageXSI 2 is a great temptation

3/ It wasnt so fiddly to get running if you have specialised hardware

4/ If i knew about security holes..maybe my information is antiquated but i rememeber a lot of people referring to linux as "please hack me" at one point.

I dont like windows, its inefficient, inextensible and microsoft are so tight with intellectual property they all but kill off most chances of innovation on the platform.

But having said that its the only platform i can get up and running on that does what i need it to (IE, run 3d graphics apps i know and let me do some gaming on the side)

I like fiddling with OSes and hardware, but it gets annoying when you have to keep screwing around with something to keep it stable.

Just my 2 quid.

...for people who'd be better off with an iMac. For those of us who actually know something about computers, XP's "helpful" new features are just crap that gets in the way.

I find 2000 to be the best of the Windows OSs.
Its the most stable (for me anyways), everything runs faster, etc..

I'm going to have to agree with you there. 2k is probably the best Windows OS yet.

...of course...if Linux had the kind of app support that Windows has, I would switch in a heartbeat.

And if you could change resolution without resorting to a console and having to re-set all your video card settings. Of course, that's second to actually getting an ethernet working...
*cough*can anyone help?*cough*

Eh, I'd run it if I could get all the stuff running on Linux that I can on windows.  It makes for one helluva Web Platform.
