I thought that went when they did...
P.S. I really miss 3DFX
mmh? OpenGL was created by Silicon Graphics, and there's no link between them and 3DFX.
Stryke: I've read somewhere, indeed, that FS1 and descent shared the same 3D engine. After comparing both, I really don't see what's the same actually: the descent engine uses only 64*64 maps max, fs2 256*256. Ok, so that can be an imrovement. Then descent Zbuffer is perfect, while FS1/2 one is ... just pathetic. Now that's a big step backward. Desent deals with high polycounts better, whilefreespace needed high end comps when it came out. Don't tell me it's 20 ships per mission using 256*256 maps that will make the difference. The AI of descent required much more comp resources than some higher res maps... Really, they would have used the descent engine as it was, with just the map improvement, it would have been oh so much better than it was already. FS2 ai is crap, while D1 (how old it is btw?) was, and still is, a high standard for AI. The bots never bumped against walls, they could follow the player in tortuous corridors, they could dodge shots with real efficiency... oh well, I'm completly OT there

About Volition, I wouldn't mind anybody else making FS3 (Outrage?).
