I'm sure that my input on this matter won't be of my meaning or consequence, given my tainted history, but I believe that HLP has full ownership of Freespace 1 and 2. It was a fantastic game that had few flaws in it, but just didnt sell well, and now it belongs to this community. Perhaps not in legal pen and paper, but for intents and purposes, HLP community own Freespace 1 and 2.
Look at DoD: Source. It was a fan based game, and Valve asked for ownership and bought it , now they sell it, and it sells well.
I believe HLP could pool all the great modders, voice talents, mission designers and producers together and create "That which shall not be named.". Or just put it before a large gaming company and ask them if they'd consider helping for marketing it.
Anyway, thats my two cents.
