Attention all forumites: re-arranging of the HLP Forums
Right. As you guys will know, it's been voiced many times in the past to separate the Hard Light Forum - it being the centre of quite a few things (general discussion, HLP news, and art).

Now there are a billion and one ways to re-arrange the Forums (well, maybe not that many, but still a fair number of ways to do this).

Here's one suggested way.

  • Option 1. Keep things as is. Pros - us admins get to be lazy (this isn't going to pull very much weight in the decision-making process, I bet)... and it's a familiar setup to all of us. This Forum will remain active. Cons - people will still lose real art threads or news threads in all the OT. Now this is a fairly loose point... it depends on how much OT stuff you guys are capable of posting (I am fearful of the answer).
  • Option 2. Separating the HL forum into two - Hard Light and a new (as yet unnamed) art section. The Hard Light section would remain the area with HLP news and general (currently OT) discussion. All art would be moved off to the new art section. Pros - less work than the next option (you'll see). Both forums should stay fairly active, though we'll have to wait and see to be perfectly sure. People looking for art only can find it easier, and because of the reduced traffic, it will be easier to keep track of, and more difficult to lose.

  • Option 3. Cut HL into 3 forums. Art, HLP news, and general discussion. I personally think the latter two forums would get a little stagnant, but that's just IMHO.

Well, that's it. Now, what I want you guys to do is two-fold; tell us which option you prefer - and why. The why is important, so give it a shot, mmmmkay?

Okay, that's about it, IIRC. Thanks for your time, everyone - looking forward to your replies!

How much HLP news IS there? I personally think 2 forums would be more or less acceptable (after all, renders are as much a staple of the community as mods themselves), and possibly a third devoted to me. The OT forum, if there is one, is going to be a rather unpleasant festering hole in the HLP, but it'd mainly, as far as I can guess, be simply the concentrated stupidity of all the OT topics elsewhere. This would provide the advantage of having a single forum with relatively lenient rules, though all the forums with an actual point would probably have, if anything, tougher regulations... It's really all the same to me, I get my complete and total irrelevance from sources of far purer quality, so I guess I'm just wasting my valuable time out of lack of a lot better to think about at the moment, having solved the so-called "mysteries of the universe" for the second time running now...

What Stryke 9 our good friend here is trying to say is we need a 4th option like this:

Option 4:
Forum1: General Discussion
Forum2: HLP News & Art/Renders

Thought these would be renamed and I would also suggest for all the options Setekh has given; we should have a poll in which order they should be on the HLP Forums Main Page.

Bear in mind that it's very simple to set up a forum, say which option you like - not which one is simpler for us

2 Forums. I really don't see why there should be seperate general discussion and news forums.

Agreed; HLP news should go with the art section, as both of them have relevance to this site in particular. General, I fear, would turn into, as a favorite Jedi Master of mine once put it: "a wretched hive of scum and villany."

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Another thing I just thought of - one of the possibilities for the future is that of "sticky" threads, these could function as notices for important news or other such things - might be something to take into account when making a decision here

That, incidentally, is one of the pros for keeping the Forums as is.
