Oooh, that looks useful. :D
The double-fine resolution is great, as is the way it follows when you move an object perpendicular to that plane.

I know it's a WIP, but just in case:
It's not quite scaling appropriately I don't think. Especially on large ships, it doesn't seem to pick a resolution that's particularly helpful to the positioning of anything. It looks pretty good on small ships though. :)

Might I suggest that it only surrounds the ship itself rather than extending to infinity? I've always found them more useful that way.

Also, found a bug when you try and pan the view around in orthogonal view mode. To mantis!

still working on it, I gave up on trying to get it to zoom the scale the closer you got, it just led to flickering hell, zip updated. still working on it though.

I'm thinking it would be great if the grid were toggleable.  Maybe not through the toolbar, but maybe just the preferences or something.  For screenshots and such.  Ooh, that gives me another idea.  A full-screen hotkey, that makes the render take up the whole screen.  Just some thoughts.

I was just about to start working on a tool bar toggle button for it.

not sure about the full screen idea.... switching between fullscreen and window can be pretty tricky, and you can make it fill 90% of the screen just by maximizing the window and pulling the control and navigation panels as far as they will go out of the way.

updating the zip, fixed some ray pick issues mostly. I'm prety happy with the grid and, as I just said, I'm going to be hooking it into a toggle now.

PCS2 is great on 16:9 and 16:10 monitors (many "Widescreen" computer monitors are 16:10 like mine - so you can have a 16:9 image on the screen and still have room for controls without occluding the image)

Bob, using the latest build, that model I sent you now converts, but crashes PCS2 or FS2 on loading.

Just letting you know something changed for the slightly better. :)


Oh...and could that grid be made to scale outwards infinitely?

which grid? there are three of them, a small one that only renders +/- 10 'units' (some multiple of 10 meters is scaled to something appropriate for the size of the given model) around the selected item, a medium one that renders roughly within the object's bounding box, and a big one that renders out pretty far.

and keep in mind that the sig build is not an experimental BSP build, so if you used an experimental BSP build last time and this one now, it's a very different beast (don't remember which build you were using, I do recommend trying the experimental BSP though noting any significant differences in the experimental BSP thread).

How do you zoom in and out now? It used to be mouse wheel scroll but currently doesn't work. Just stuck with a very too close view of a ship.

How about using dual click for zooming (left and right mouse button)

How do you zoom in and out now? It used to be mouse wheel scroll but currently doesn't work. Just stuck with a very too close view of a ship.

How about using dual click for zooming (left and right mouse button)
shift + right button
If that doesn't work  - check the hierarchy for groups that don't contain any mesh. This causes the view to be inside the ship.

and the scroll wheel doesn't work? try it with a standard model, something very wrong is happening there.

Both zoom functions work fine here in both the BSPEX_2 build and standard PCS2. Check that your mouse is over the 3d window while scrolling maybe? Beyond that I don't know. :\

if it is happening to an  already pofed model - look at the bounding box size. If all zeros then you will need to reconvert from cob or pmf again

If from a cob - hierarchy error is the most likely cause

 
It must be something to do with the model. Other pof's work good.  Doesn't matter, i don't need that pof anyways.

if the model radius is zero (like the max converter is famous for), that could cause zooming to fail.

ok, I just made a rather important update to my sig, I fixed a bug related to BSP caching, it wasn't saving radius or bounding boxes. you need to open and save any pofs effected by this bug or colision detection won't work at all, and you will be zoomed in and unable to change if you open the file for viewing.
