That's the Rose Tinted Glasses effect though, objects in the rear-viwe mirror and all that. I don't think things were better, only different. before the Source Code Project really started to take off and breathe life back into Freespace, this board was a brown dwarf, a collection of people sitting around waiting for a game to vanish. I know it sounds cruel to put it like that, but, most games end up relegated to a little specialist Forum in the corner of the Interweb after a few years.
Thing about boards that are going through a 'Brown Dwarf' stage is that it's a pretty close knit, tongue in cheek community, everyone knows each other, and they are comforable taking the rise out of each other, however, newbs get ganged up on in many cases.
HLP is changing, that's true, but it's becoming a more high-profile thing, the SCP and its Mods get a lot of attention for it, and the community is growing, despite what people may have said. So what you end up with is somewhat closed community suddenly having to cope with becoming an open one, which is never easy

So ends todays evaluation
