listen to Herzeleid/Sehnsucht and figure out just what they are ripping off and where their roots are
if they aren't industrial then fine, i'm not getting into the the scene debate, but it's pretty obvious where they come from

i like finnish viking metal bands like moonsorrow and ensiferum (though only their first album, after that their sound shifted too far twards power metal), and dark metal (sorta like black metal but more melodic and less aggressive) band ajattara. im sure there are other finnish bands i listen too, but i cant think of any right now.

rammstein is most certainly industrial. anyone who disagrees just doesnt know their genres (thats 80% of american metalheads). at least familiarize yourself with the dunn chart from metal:a headbangers journey. this chart is not very accurate, it completely fails to list doom metal, and they put cof in with norwigian black metal (even though theyre a british (extreme) faggoth band). the rejection of basic genres is one of the reasons why all american metal sounds the same.

Anyone listen to Epica or Luca Turilli's Dreamquest? Other good bands in a similar vein of Nightwish (although lacking the opera voice).

Back at ya:  Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation ... just saw them in concert on a recommendation and was quite impressed.  Couple steps removed (Italy and Netherlands respectively) but very enjoyable.  What do you think?

Good zark I feel like I've discovered a whole new solar system.  I've discovered 9+ bands this month alone (5 just from this thread!) that I like way better than what I'd been listening to in the last year.

I enjoyed Nightwish, Apocalyptica and Lordi(c'mon its KISS meets Army of Darkness what's not to like ).  I listened to the new singer for Nightwish and thought it was pretty good, i dunno if she will be able to belt one out like Tarja could but we will see.

On the original topic for once, I agree... do like the new voice but need them to release a less mellow song to REALLY show how it compares, the 'belting'.  Did just find out they'll be in a nearby city October 31st, woo, so I guess I'll find out!

Well i sure listened to paid in full more than 7 times in a row i really liked it, and was also pissed that i pretty much have no way of getting the album legally or illegally right now, so thats all i get to listen to out of their new album, not to mention paid in full is like the only music video on their site that has absolutely good video quality and sound quality. The worst video on that site is just unbearable and you have to go to youtube for a higher quality version was the video they have of wolf and raven. The wolf and raven audio quality and video quality was so low on SA's site that i know you could stream higher quality **** over dialup. That's my rant, i'll go check out some of these other bands

when im not listening to kvltgrymtrooblackmetal, i tend to listen to doom, viking, death, old skool thrash, sludge, and on rare occasions, goth and industrial. genres i dispise would be power, prog, and anything with a -core affix (except maybe grindcore if its really harsh like the **** on the gummo soundtrack).
