Holy sweet freaking monkey Jesus, is this game good. It's creepy, beautiful, scary.. Everything I hoped it would be. IF there is one complaint about the demo is, you don't get to take on a Big Daddy. But, you'll get too soon enough in the full game. Believe the hype, folks. This ****s for real.

Well, at least they're taking the time to optimize it. This game looks very promising, but I don't want to see yet another bloatware graphics engine, like pretty much everything else that has come out in the last year or two.

If anyone is curious, the release date for the PC edition should be on the 24th of August - in 10 days time from now. At least that's when GAME stores in the UK are set to get it (assuming the information is accurate).

A couple of points about that though:

Firstly - where are the shadows on the models?:

Secondly - I've really started taking the opinions of games reviewers with more than a pinch of salt than ever. I can rely on them to tell me what I could do in a game - but I don't trust the opinion of whether it's any good or not. A case in point: I've seen far too many X Box 360 games with "Definitely a contender for game of the year, buy this now!! - Microsoft Magazine" and "It'll be some time before we see another game like this one - The Official X Box 360 Digest" etc. That is to say - of course a magazine written by Microsoft reviewing games on its own console system is going to rave about the ones it wants to sell well. Therefore can we really take that as the truth? Not necessarily.

That said - everyones been saying this is good, so I'm going to try it if nothing else!

I don't think there are any sites these days that can be termed trustworthy on their own. I go by a combination of Metacritic (which gives the average score of 30 or so other sites) and user opinions on forums.

99.99% of the time that's the approach I take.  This is a rather large exception for me.
