So I'm thinking of leaving my position at the restaurant because this one ****ing server is seriously getting on my nerves. It's not often that I lose my patience, but this guy is simply draining it from me
Been in there a year without a single problem. Then, we have a ridiculous amount of parties. Parties eat glassware like no other
They also drive the line and saute bringing me a ****ton of pans
More pans, dirtier water, can't send through glassware as they won't get clean
And yet, he comes into my station with this attitude that he runs this **** (he even said he can do my job better. I've been inclined to hand him the gloves and tell him to knock himself out while I walk out the back door to have drinks at the bar)
"This is the second time we've run out glasses today. (A get your **** together tone)"
"What am I doing right now?" *I point to the machine, which is doing a water change, so I can send through glassware*
"You should be on top of this"
"I am, hence the water change"
"Well make it go faster"
"Yes, because I can control gravity"
Here he makes a snide comment that the other dishwasher (who works the two slowest days. Mind you, he is better than I and I will agree to that)
" 'He' would never run of glassware"
Later I confront him that remarks like that don't help anyone. So what does he do? He continues his "I am better than you" nature by telling me that I should manage my time better
Okay, let's ask you guys. I come into the dishpit at 5:30pm. Dishwasher 2 is already in there. I first, grab the **** I need (chemicals, scrubbies, gloves). I then proceed to organize the dishpit (plates, inserts) and take over. Dishguy number 2 is now under my control. I give him the gameplan. While I do the pans, you're going to set through the baking trays and the cutting boards for walking space. Keep the back organized at the same time
We proceed to do that, but a few parties walk in, so glassware became a requirement. This is the first time we run out
So I obliged the requirement, got started on a water change
I then proceed to do plates, ramequins, cutlery galore, teapots and creamers. After that's done, I take care of all the stuff that was leftover from dayside. Well attempt to, more pans come my way. So once again, dish #2 takes care of the stuff that can just be sent through, and I'm on pans. Pans are done, plates need doing. I take care of that, and glassware is still minimal, no problem
Then boom, nearly right after I finish the pans and a couple racks of plates, more pans. It hasn't even been all that long, maybe half an hour. In that time, I've cleared front of previous dayside, taken care of a dozen cutting boards, and thirty baking trays. A few pots, and quite a few inserts. I've washed 22 pans (soon to be closer to 40) of which many were burnt. So once again, he's sending through things while I'm doing pans. Then the glassware comes in from the parties (because that's what happens, it comes all at once). Racks for one come over, and the other is half filled
I can't do it, water isn't clean. I pound through the rest of the pans, and do a water change
I repeat this cycle for the next hour, but this guy still comes in while I'm doing everything I can to ensure they have what they need. During a water change. For glassware
If he keeps with his attitude, I'll just remove myself from the equation. When someone tells me that there are two dishwashers who are supposed to be doing the job of one, without realizing that I'm actually having two dishwashers, doing the job of two dishwashers, he can go **** himself. If I was alone, I wouldn't be doing inserts or kitchen stuff. I'd be doing plates, glasses, and pans. That's what I've got the time for, that's what I'll be doing. They'd have all the glassware they need
But of course, he's widely known as being an arrogant prick who is actually considered to be less than average at his own job. The irony, and I nearly mentioned that, but what does that accomplish?
