It was kind of both.  Mom put $5 in a machine, took a $29 ticket out.  She gave the ticket to me and said "Happy birthday."  I played on that ticket for a bit and won over $100 on a Bejewled slot machine.  Kept playing on that ticket for the rest of the night, and cashed it out for $140 at the end of the night.  Dinner was $30, and I spent $5 on tips for the beverage servers.

Heh. What kind of casino is this? Your mom makes about 5X the money she puts in, then gives it to you and you make about 5X the money you put in? That's not how casinos are supposed to work, they're supposed to take your money!

The effect on price that your run of the mill Wal-mart employee at the store level exerts is negligible to an extent that you wouldn't see one or two cents difference if the entire store suddenly got a $5/hr raise.

This is true for most of corporate retail.

ive never seen so many downtrodden people than that time i was contracted to build bikes for a retail store. the whole staff were zombies. good thing i just had to turn screws for 10 hours a week. i think i made more than the store manager.

Going into the doctor for the first time in six years. I've been tired; had to drop my second job, I've sporadically had mouth sores, and existing Raynauds has been acting up. I'm still on my parents insurance, so I've scheduled an appointment with a local university hospital clinic. Aard's girl problems update: No update. This is troublesome. Depending how paranoid I am, it almost seems like the guy is avoiding answering the question of "are you facebook friends with her?". Alternatively, maybe he just missed it the first time and hasn't got around to replying now. Or maybe he's busy working on setting up an awesome reunion get-together thing, and that's why he hasn't answered yet. Yeah, no.

Shockingly enough, I think Nuke is actually right in spirit, if not necessarily in the specifics.  Take this with the necessary nugget of salt from one who's had zero lifetime experience with such entanglements, but I feel like that sort of almost obsession-level fixation on a likely-unavailable person is fairly unhealthy in general, and almost never ends well.  Just live your life, meet people, and see what happens.

This is also what I would recommend. Not that you should just give up on the girl, but don't fixate on her.
