Happy birthday to me!
Congratulations!

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!

Just watched Duel, Steven Spielberg's first film. A masterful example of how to make a great movie with limited resources. The "making of" commentary is hilarious.

[vrets life story]

Last quarter of college, spent entire weekend studying for midterm valued at 40% of my overall grade in the class. I'll survive but there's a lot of stress. The pressure is on, because I have had a job lined up for the past 6 months. I start work when and IF I graduate; at least technically, the position is contingent on my graduation, which seems fairly contingent on passing this apocalypse midterm. It's like the university's last chance to screw me over (or giving me one last chance to screw myself over?).

edit: from the last page...sorry that rats ate your car, dude. i lost a buick to some wasps...wasps literally flew away with my car

Drawing would have been fine. I actually advise it, it's very demanding when you do it in the right mindset. It's also soothing.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Asante Sana Squash Banana.
Hey guys, I'm going to California and road tripping from LAX to Salem in Oregon over the course of about 2 weeks this July. I know I haven't posted here in yonks, but FS has always had a special place in my heart, and despite the fact I look like a fratboy these days, I'm still a huge nerd at heart. Would anyone be keen to chill and LAN some Freespace during that time, and live kind of along that route? Worth starting a thread to see who's interested? I'm definitely planning to hit up San Francisco if anyone's there. If Freespace LANs aren't on the cards, I'm just down to chill out and shoot the **** with any other interested people.

NB: I'm an Aussie and my knowledge of US geography is ****ing ****e.

I feel like I should tell someone about you before you start doing that to people's faces.

I'd love to hang out with you for a bit and drink some beer, Dilmah, but you're heading the complete opposite direction from where I live.  I live down in Orange, California, which is quite a detour from the route from LAX to Oregon. :P

Do not try to get from LA to Orange anytime after 2PM. Take it from me...

In morning traffic, everybody is trying to get into LA; afternoon, trying to get as far away as possible.

EDIT: Google mapping a little... oh yeah, the 405. 405 is death.

o_O

I haven't got that bored!

...yet

EDIT: Got called by Modis Canada looking to talk to me about a QA position I applied for. They asked me if I had any sort of experience, I naturally said no, but I was looking at taking school for the stuff related to. They gave me their contact info, said "Let us know when you're done" and went on their merry little way

My question is why the hell didn't they screen my resume which explicitly states that *I have no relevant experience*? Interesting really
