Re: Whatever Happens In Your Life - Reality Has Left the Building
apparantly my professor's expert notes on TMI won't do for the article i need on a nuclear catastrophe.  i have to go find a dumbed-down published article that in all likelihood has things wrong.

i hate "humanities" classes/professors.

First day of classes was (is) today.  They were all really easy, especially Human Geography.  Except Calc II.  **** Calculus. (sorry Battuta/Herra/et al)

calc 2 wasn't as bad as everyone made it seem.

my belly hurts. i'm expecting to be in excrutiating pain by morning, except i have a PE class at 9am, so I will just have to take some yummy percocets or something.

Calculus I is awesome.  Calculus II, by every account I've ever heard (from a substantial number of people), is ridiculously hard.

It is, in fact, quite hard.  However, with proper application of water and organic solvents, it will become quite placid, and much easier to smear over bread for consumption.

our calc II is different from the rest of the world's.  ours is basically intro to diff EQ.  i'm going to guess everyone else's calc II is multi-variable

Re: Whatever Happens In Your Life - Reality Has Left the Building
For me Calc 3 was multivariable, and iirc calc 2 was ... maybe intro to differential equations? I don't remember

Humbug.

Calc II here is multi-variable, I'm pretty sure.

Whatever it is, it's a pain.

Most schools do integrals in Calculus 2 (and some really basic ODEs, like first-order ones) and multivariable stuff in Calculus 3.

As for Calculus 2 being harder than 1, it's basically a continuation of the same class. I never understood why they are considered separate at all. :p

Re: Whatever Happens In Your Life - Reality Has Left the Building
we do integration in calc I here.  the slightly funkier stuff like solids of rotation get pushed to II.  after that, it's completely disjointed and ventures off into differential equations and laplace transforms, series, and other such oddities.

maybe our order is more similar than i thought, but all the stories i've heard from transfer students suggested we did things weird.

Amen dude. I am so not doing engineering.

I'm a engineering double major.  It's inescapable for me.

Also, we covered both integrals and solids of rotation in Calc I.  I honestly don't know what's going to be in Calc II entirely, but EVERYONE I'VE EVER TALKED TO who has taken that class has told me it's the hardest class ever (with the exception of one person, but he's the most mathematically gifted person I've ever met, so he doesn't count).
