As an addendum, if you are in college, check out if they have some variety of Latin/Ballroom dance club.  Typically the demographics are going to be disproportionally skewed towards women, their generally aren't many guys doing this they need dance partners.  The key is take it seriously and don't be a creep, ie do not go into it thinking you're there to hit on girls.  If you work hard at the activity and have more personality then a bag of rocks then you should start making friends.  Eventually some of them might develop an interest in you or earmark you as a candidate for one of their friends.

As one of the officers of the local Ballroom dance club, this is false.  Numbers are disproportionally skewed towards men for the greater part of the semester.  Sometime around the last three weeks or so you'll see a balance, or more women than men, but until then, there's always a glut of guys.

I work, I go home, I play some games, sleep, repeat.

There are only two people I've been able to keep in regular contact with, and it hasn't been face to face for well over a year. Everyone else fell off the edge

Sounds like you are out of practice being social.

If there are any work colleagues you are comfortable around then try talking to them some more, find out about them, join in the office banta.  If you have to talk to colleagues regularly for work purposes and there is no issue with doing so dont e-mail but get up and go to them, also keep an eye open for opportunities for general chatter, scan newspapers on their desk, if you have a radio on at work comment on news bulletins.  Not only does a small amount of this show more interest in your work place which helps with job security and new opportunities in the company but the increased general social interaction will shed any loner image you might have built up and help you be smoother with the ladies.

As for communication, there's no issue with it. Servers dropping off their stuff I'll have a quick chat with, people working in the kitchen I'll talk to when the opportunity arises. I'm not without social practice, it just doesn't go beyond anything other than a conversation here and there at work or random encounters. I don't involve myself further than I need to since precedence hasn't particularly been in my favour
