i fixed the last bug with my new rig. i was getting lockups whenever i tried to play a game or do anything that required some go. i first suspected that my psu wasnt providing enough juice for the gpu dispite being 120 watts over what the power calculator said it would need. i was thinking that the fact that i had 3 12v rails (with the gpu and cpu each getting their own independent rail, and the last for everything else), that the juice was distributed between them not providing enough power to the rail that the gpu was on. but after scaning over the documentation for the parts i found that the rail the gpu was on could deliver a couple amps more than the gpu needed. so my suspicion shifted to the memory. i ran my diagnostics and all the cpu stuff passed with flying colors, then the memory tests started. every memory tester i used would lock up on me after some 30%, but without producing any actual errors. so i upped my memory voltage from 1.25v to 1.27v and boom el work-o. the morale of this story: ram needs power.
