I have come to the conclusion that shorter haired girls--as long as they don't border on androgynous--are sexier than ones with longer hair.

This I say after praising my girlfriend for deciding she wants to grow her hair longer again.

ive spent several days in eagle cad designing my legendary 8-bit video board. ive been considering that the mcu i am using to drive the display signals is way too powerful for the job, and that i might have enough cpu time to allow character backgrounds and some degree of sprite processing. im using a rotating frame buffer, essentially you can write to one sram module while the other one is being used to genrerate video signals (native vga, but ive found an ic to convert rgb to yuv and might be able to support composite as well). during a blanking period in the video signal you can flip the buffer so that the new frame may be drawn.

considering there is some excess time during horizontal and vertical blanking periods to run code, i figured the contents of the frame buffer could be blended with at least one background layer, possibly more (and maybe forground/text overlay), and a sprite layer. in addition i am planning full text and raster modes as well.

hardware interface is essentially a memory interface. a 15-bit address bus (framebuffer is an epic 32k!) and an 8 bit data bus, and about 5 control pins. initially i will have this thing connected to an arduino with some latches of shift registers to multiplex the pins. there will be a a command register that lets you issue commands, initially you will init the frame buffer by writing data to the control register (what video mode, what resolution, other settings), and any data you need transfered to the onboard mcu (backgrounds, sprites, fonts, palettes). the mcu has 16k of sram, some of it will be used to cache the current line, and some for program code, the rest can be used to store graphics. once inited then you may write data to the frame buffer, which varies with the video mode.

later on i might throw together a nice 8 bit computer to replace the arduino, provided i can find a fairly modern 8 bit cpu, or a microcontroller that supports an external program area. i at some point want to be able to run code from something like an sd card, and avr isnt quite so good at running code from off chip.

My physics engine can now handle 800 physics particles at once, without any noticeable performance hit! They're like little pebbles that bounce off of terrain but don't collide with each other.

But if I add the enemies back in it slows down horribly.
