HD crash!

It took 10 minutes from BIOS to get to Windows. Opera took some minutes to load too. I can browse with a bearable speed on the net, but everything else is darn slow to load. I'm wondering I should run FSO and stopwatch it, just for experiment's sake.

Hahahaha! Yeah, I'm trying not to, but the thought of being made Class 4 is really stressing me out insanely at the moment. My current plan is to try and stop the report from going through and then get an appointment with another allergist. And making sure that before that appointment that my body is chock-full of antihistamines so nothing comes up.

Should work also for appeal, so IMO I *should* be okay. It may mean that I don't get enlisted with the rest of the folks I got selected with on the 24th.

At the moment I'm juggling my Army medical application, my commitment to AIESEC: a workshop and a 3 day state conference next week, then the coordination of a Body-Art workshop for kids this coming Friday and in addition to that, oops! There goes my study-break!

an F-18 just crashed into an apartment complex in Virginia Beach.  possibly one of the ones i was considering when i moved here.  glad i didn't pick that one now.

two chutes were seen, no info on anyone on the ground.  i could see the smoke on my way home.

modern combat jet has more things to go wrong with than you want to know about, most of the time it's stuff that wont affect flight operations, sometimes, despite the best maintenance, something critical fails.  Not saying pilot error is out of the question but there is a shed load of stuff to consider in these situations which is why investigations into air crashes take months, at least the data recorders should be easy to find

as for crashing, making a hunk of metal float in the air isn't as easy as it sounds.  and no, Ace Combat did NOT teach you anything.  ace combat is incapable of teaching one anything about flying.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 taught me that crashing is really easy, though.  Some of the planes will flip over, if you throttle the engine up too quickly on take-off.  Also, if you're flying aircraft intended for carrier use, make sure the 'fold wings' key is in a very obscure place on your controler/keyboard, because in mid-air, that's the 'wings fall off' button.

Apparently, when you get really good at staying aloft, there's other aircraft in the game that you can fight!  I'm unable to confirm or deny these claims.

i'm watching the local news coverage.  they just now said there have been 6 people treated at the hospital.  no deaths confirmed now, but of course there's a real possibility that there are in the apartments that they haven't been able to get into and search yet.  3 buildings completely destroyed, 2 more heavily damaged.  various eye witnesses suggest the wing may have come off after takeoff, and pretty much everyone has said that they heard engines popping like they were either blowing up or trying to restart.  the mayor said the admiral of the air base told him that the pilots saw flames come over the wing. 

it looks like from the helicopter shots that the tail section dislodged, or the rest of the plane simply disintegrated.


as a side note, this news coverage is really making me realize how dumb a lot of reporters are.

Welp, I stumbled upon that thread, and I was kind of hoping (but not expecting) that it wasn't that particular forum and that the link wouldn't garner as much defense as it did.  It's pretty hard to maintain any measure of credibility, when defending the veracity and integrity of The Daily Mail.  I guess there's a good reason why I only go there anymore, when I'm trying to get a sense of what the lunatic fringe is saying about a particular political issue.

(To be fair, the real crazies are just two or three of the posters there, but their presence is so dominant on that forum that their madness really does define the conversation.)
