Yeah, I have to have over a thousand bookmarks by now, and I know I have well over a thousand YouTube videos saved as favorites.

I just realized I have at least 100 youtube videos saved as browser bookmarks, rather than favorites.

I did that before I had a YouTube account, and then again when YouTube had a limit on the number of videos you could favorite.  It's fun to scroll back every now and then to see how many of the videos I randomly favorited have disappeared, and how many others I no longer give a damn about. :p

After helping my mom clear enough space on the old desktop to defrag it (need at least 15% free space), I discovered that my laptop is set to automatically defrag every Wednesday at 1am. Awesome?



Also, how the **** do I solve a quartic equation?

Given two unit vectors a and b which are orthogonal, let g = a cos θ + b sin θ.

Let z1 = g · (some vector), and z2 = g · (some other vector)

The equation has the following terms (with scalar coefficients):

z14
z13
z12
z1
z12 * z2
z1 * z2
z2
1

And I've got to solve for θ (although solving for g, or for z1 and z2 will be enough that I can solve for θ in terms of that) :(

What is the geometric interpretation of θ here?  I drew a diagram with a, b as orthogonal unit vectors from the origin, b leads a by 90° (CCW), with θ being the rotation angle from the +x axis to a.  That leads to some pretty interesting behavior for the function g.  For instance if θ is zero then g = a, if θ = 45° then g is a unit vector along the +y axis.

I'm not easily following the transition from g to the equation with z1, etc.

Edit:  Also, what is this for?  Looks like a fairly tough problem.

Wat. g(θ) is just a unit circle in the plane containing a and b.

And z1 and z2 are the dot products of g with some vectors, i.e. if I call those vectors c and d, then

z1 = a · c cos θ + b · c sin θ
z2 = a · d cos θ + b · d sin θ

And ultimately the equation has the form:

z14 * k1 + z13 * k2 + z12 * k3 + z1 * k4 + z12 * z2 * k5 + z1 * z2 * k6 + z2 * k7 + k8 = 0

Where kn are some scalar coefficients the derivation of which is probably unimportant.
