Watched LotR again. Thoroughly convinced that a couple thousand English longbowmen used well could've destroyed pretty much any conventional threat in the movies.

A thousand longbowmen would've decimated plenty armies back in medieval times. Nothing less than well trained bowmen though.

Elven archers were really only ever deployed in token numbers in the movie so it's hard to say. On one hand everyone always seems to be a total 1337 h4x0r pr0 at archery, but they still can't seem to figure out how to fight a war with them.

Also another thing that annoys me: 1) swords seem to be able to magically cut through chainmail and 2) goddamn near everyone has chainmail or plate armor

EDIT: I'm sure the book explains everything, but my fiction backlog is big enough. :(

Some of the swords where made out of mithril (I think), but I haven't read anything in the book (yet) that says if it can cleave through chainmail and platemail easily.

Note: it IS possible to stab through chainmail and platemail given a good tip... This is perhaps one of the advantages the Romans had in their training (stabbing vs. slashing)

In other news:

Had a hearing test today due to getting fed up with random bouts of temporary hearing loss over the last couple of years, and the recent development of bumping into things as I walk. Got referred to the hospital because the GP couldn't find what was wrong, and ear problems run in my family.  Now have to wait eight weeks for the hospital to contact me.  :doubt:

Also tried almond milk for the first time. My chest went tight almost immediately, but it was tasty so I dropped a couple of allergy tablets down my neck and fun was had by all. Except for the weetabix. They got eaten.

i just read sisterhood of dune.

IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!!

it spent over half of the book recapping itself. it spent another quarter recapping the events of the legends of dune series. the rest of the book was cliffhangers and plot holes. i really didnt think they could **** over the machine era books. i mean the ledgends series wasn't all that bad, they had some level of flexibility in the duniverse and could pull it off without assraping the original six dunes or any of the original characters from the series (unlike the prelude to dune series). its comforting to know that BH&KJA are fully capable of jacking all over their own crap, in addition to the legendary frank herbert's stuff.  we should take their water for the good of the tribe.
