Heh, I still have the ancient family Dimension 8100 lying around, with a blazing-fast 1.3 GHz first-gen P4 and I think 384 MB of RDRAM (lol).  A small part of me wants to look up the stuff on eBay and toss a bit more in, so that maybe I can fool around with Linux on it.

of course i was once a computer tech, so i know how to driver hunt.

finding them wasn't the problem (well it would have been if i didn't have the install disk still).  getting them to work right was the real mother****er.  getting it to not sound like ass (only 2.0 from front speakers, no driver control) required a very odd combination of driver versions and seemingly irrelevant bloatware utilities, as well as a particular install/reinstall order and a ****load of luck. 

with 512mb they will be a pain in the neck.

for xp under basic use, and even older gaming, 512mb works fine.  i played fs2 and halo on 256mb.  it was glorious coming from my dad's old PIII 1ghz / 128mb setup.

Not a bad way to end a friday by going all out in bf3 and drunk!

I ended it by crashing in the student loft and playing minecraft with several friends and calling it a day at IHOP.

I nearly punched a fellow student in my painting class for leaving a bottle of liquin open that gave me terrible headaches yesterday. Liquin is a petroleum distillate, or in english, cancer factory!

Now, i've flat out refused to use the stuff to glaze or make my painting dry quicker but I deem the risk not worth the reward.

Close to bordering on temperament problems with the younger art students. These dumb kids keep on rattling that abstract art is "nonsense," and ***** and moan that process work is not looking like stuff in their heads. I tell them that process drawing and abstract art falls on experience and principles and elements of design, even the shoddiest of Graphic Designers should at least be able to moan about these topics. Seriously, if these young-uns can't identify or work within a context outside of their comfort zone, then they'd better find a new major, because even Illustration will spit them out like used rags.

Don't disappoint by saying "No, it was not at IHOP" because it makes it that much more hilarious if you were playing while eating pancakes galore




As for my Friday, I ended it with a really busy day at work (relative to what I've been going through the past several months now) complimented by this broken hose spraying 140F water everywhere
I may have burnt my face a couple dozen times... and everywhere there was bare skin

But that's okay. One of the servers and I sang the portal song and were the theme of "cute" today by everyone watching our antics

Jackson Pollock was a classically trained landscape painter, so I'd actually call him a whackjob instead. But I'd incorporate De Stijl with a series of Piet Mondrien prints on a plywood board, perhaps they could also learn by osmosis

IHOP is the best place for college related affairs. Had an Eng. Economy project group that regularly met there for planning, they have the best omelets at night.
