The local public library now has vending machines.

Last I checked, eating or drinking in libraries is generally verboten.

Based on the size of the library's collection and how many recent books they're able to buy, I'd say they're not exactly cash-strapped.

Well, the University library did have a vending machine, although it sold things like No-Doz.

Yeah, but that's different. The cafe area is clearly separate from the rest of the store, and I think it's understood that you can't take food or drink from the cafe area to the store area. I don't spend much time in bookstore cafes though, so I wouldn't really know.

last time i was in a bookstore, there were people with coffee strewn all over the place in loungers and bean bag chairs and whatnot, not just in the cafe.
