I placed second in the StarCraft tournament, but I feel as though I did well. I eliminated three other players, making it to the finals and even becoming the MVP of the tournament, accumulating the most skill points in the tournament.

At 1 PM today I'll be duking it out in Quake III, but I suspect this will be a much smaller tournament. I'm hoping for similar results, but hopefully I'll actually win this one!

I'm back from a week in the middle of nowhere with my reserve unit.  Tomorrow kicks off another week with my reserve unit, this time slightly less in the middle of nowhere.  Also this time I'll have internet.  Yay.

I placed first (of eight people) in the Quake III Arena tournament. There were three rounds and I placed first in all three; original eight players, then top five players, then top three players. The convention is over now though, unfortunately. Perhaps I am falling victim to recentism, but I think this may have been my best convention yet (of the three I've been to). Mostly because of the people I went with.

Went to see Pacific Rim.  I expected to see giant robots beating the **** out of giant aliens with fist.  I did not expect swords or plasma cannons.  Or Ron Perlman.  Neither did I expect an ironclad plot.  I was substantially impressed by the amount of entertaininment I got from the movie.  Would see again.

When I saw the first trailer I thought it would be nothing more than a popcorn action flick, not necessarily a bad thing, but also nothing special. I've heard nothing but good things about the movie though and might end up seeing it when it hits Netflix. Glad you liked it!

Clarification: I did not expect an ironclad plot, and in that respect was neither disappointed nor impressed.  Swords, plasma cannons, and Ron Pearlman, however, impressed me with their inclusion.

I picked up an Alienware laptop for dirt cheap during my annual training from the supply sergeant trying to get rid of it.  I paid $500 for the unopened, unused, brand new laptop.  I tried playing World of Tanks on it to put it through a shakedown session.  Set the graphics options to roughly medium, but maxed the draw distance and upped to the improved graphics.

Now, World of Tanks is a notoriously badly optimized and resource intensive game on the graphics side of things for what it brings to the table.  This new computer, instead of the 10-15 FPS I'm used to on my other laptop, gave me OVER ONE HUNDRED FORTY FPS on much higher settings.

All settings are now at maximum.  Let's see how this goes.
