How is ticketmaster allowed to stay in business? Who are they paying off, and how much? Apparently the new thing is now they charge one MORE fee (for a total of three, one of them supposedly being the total collection of all fees), that isn't even disclosed until you've already paid it. First fee, about 50% of the ticket price. The supposed "all inclusive" fee advertised as part of the ticket price. Checkout time now - delivery fee. $16-20 to mail it to you express (even though the show is 10 days away), $2.50 to display a picture of it on your screen. Total displayed: $24-something. Submit, enter credit card info (no the **** you can't store my payment info), have to uncheck $7 "insurance" (I wonder if they've ever actually paid out on that) option. Total charged: $28-something. Undisclosed $4 fee added for "order processing." The name they used to use for the huge one that is now called "fees and charges."
The explanation of the fees on their website is essentially "the fees are the only way we and the venues make any money. We share the fees with the venues." Except the way it almost always works is the artist is paid a set booking fee and the venue collects the ticket sales. And ticketmaster actually owns almost all the venues.
