I wish. Our current governor got the state of California to ban all .50 BMG weapons while he was attorney general just because they could penetrate police body armor... despite zero evidence of them ever being used against police or that the police would in fact be shot at by a rifle chambered for .50 BMG, given how astoundingly often the criminal underworld in the United States makes use of military-grade anti-materiel rifles.
EDIT: Or any sort of non-automatic long rifle, given that those actually take you know, skill. This is especially hilarious given that the much smaller and easier to use yet just as lethal .338 Lapua Magnum round is still perfectly legal, and as far as I am currently aware holds the record for longest successful sniper shot.
