While Harper's position on this issue is unadulterated idiocy, to be fair, snow in Calgary in early September is not exactly abnormal.  It's Calgary.  Their weather is charitably described as 'bat**** nuts' in the best of years.  For every snowfall in September, they get a week of 20°C in January, for Pete's sake.

Hell, my home town in extreme southern BC (like 10 km from the US border) has had snowfalls in every month of the year.

unfortunately the internet is run by idiots. geeks might have put it up and manage to keep it running and are the slim faction that use the internet for things that are actually useful, but the bulk of its users are morons who cant think themselves out of a browser error message. as a result the services we should be using are not very popular and the ones we end up using are crap, obsolete long before they were created. enter twitter (excellent name because its full of twitts). its brevity feeds the need of the attention deficit generation (the ones that ask you to post a tldr for four lines of text on a forum), with its impossible to read shorthand and nondescript content. it gives every narcissist the power to scream uselessly into the cacophony of useless data that is the internet, and only to be read by the most desperate or obsessively compulsive of individuals. when this fad passes, it will make room for the next idiotic thing that doesn't make sense.

The problem is that people view Twitter as a social media tool.  It is not.  It is an information broadcasting and coordination platform.  Twitter is at its best when use to broadcast information links, sorted by particular subject using hashtags.  It's at its worst when people try to debate on it, or worse, use it to give updates on how their day is going.

I use it to follow developments in law and politics, mostly, and it's great for that.
